Pockets o'plenty and inexpensive
If you are looking for an inexpensive turkey vest with plenty of pockets, this is the one. The item’s description in this regard does not do the vest justice. From the photograph, you can see two zippered pockets and one elastic-closure pocket on the right side and one deep zippered pocket and apparently, only one non-closeable pocket on the left side. In actuality, there are two such similar-sized pockets which are designed to hold a slate call on that side. Also, the vest I received has three elastic loops above these pockets, i.e., between the zippered pocket and the two non-closeable pockets, which would hold strikers. (There are also three such loops inside the larger of the two right-side zippered pockets.) The vest in the photograph does not show these loops. Lastly, on each side, on the inside of the vest are two, mesh pockets (total of four). The vest consists of three “panels” — the two side panels with the aforementioned pockets and the back panel which has a large game/decoy/storage pouch, from which the padded seat is attached. There are two 1-inch wide web straps connecting each of the side panels to the back panel. I already had a small, 6-inch wide pouch with two zippered pockets from my old homemade “vest” (made from a hunting belt with pouches and camouflage suspenders). I took the small pouch and slid one of the upper 1-inch web straps through the pouch’s belt loop, thus adding two secure, zippered pockets to the vest in which I can carry my small binoculars and my rangefinder. (I plan to have a 10-inch wide pouch from the same hunting belt sewn onto the back panel of my new vest. The wider pouch was on the back of the hunting belt.) I wish that the front clip of the vest was wider, like a 2-inch wide one that you find on some web belts. This would make it the vest feel more secure and also easier and quicker to fasten and unfasten the clip. (I may replace the front clip [and attaching web straps] with the wider one from my old hunting belt.) Similarly, the web straps connecting the panels could have been wider. Having padded shoulder straps would be good too. (I have some from an old back-pack which I will have sewn onto the vest’s shoulder straps.) This vest will work, and the price is right.
