A definitive guide to the New Testament of the Bibleโproviding both the broader historical and cultural context as well as a passage-level commentary for each book. Many students of the Bible launch into their studies without a prior systematic reading of the New Testament. This survey is unique in the way it assists a close and complete reading, without bogging down in extensive introductions and over-academic material. Instead, A Survey of the New Testament converses with each passage in the form of brief commentary, while enabling you to see how background materialโsuch as intertestamental history, Judaism, and other historical mattersโhelps interpret the text. By tracing the flow of thought from passage to passage, you'll gain a sense of the natural progression of the narrative and logic in the New Testament. This fifth edition of Robert Gundry's classic, widely-used textbook includes updates and revisions throughout and a fresh, full-color design, including: More photos and updated/improved maps. Links to relevant websites for further study. Outlines, study goals, summaries, and review questions for each chapter. Phonetic pronunciations for unfamiliar names and terms. Breakouts with illustrative quotes from ancient, nonbiblical literature. Updated bibliographies. Review: Quality Book! - This book is an outstanding book to have! It gives you so much detail of the New Testament without overwhelming you and confusing you. It helped me understand the New Testament in a new light, and since I needed it for a class I was taking, I thought it would be better to get a book version, it was worth it! It came in great condition, I would recommend this book to anyone who is willing and wanting to learn a little bit about the New Testament. Review: Great textbook - Used this textbook for one of my college courses. Reads easily and has good detail for what I needed.

Solid Book for Solid Teaching
Purchased for a college class and am 130 pages into the book. It is quite good, in the same vein as the A Survey of the Old Testament, and provides good, faith-based insight into the background of the New Testament. It is easy to read, has nice photographs to accompany relevant material, and delves into arguments against the New Testament, too. I would recommend for those not in college, too, people who just want to learn more about the New Testament. It is a bit on the heavy side to just carry around, but I like having hardcover editions as they last a lot longer.

Good book
I'm glad I purchased this book for school and not a digital copy. This is easily a book I will continue to read after the class end. It's laid out in a way that makes it easy to read. Especially for someone like me who suffered with focusing and keeping interest in a book.

and this book made it fairly easy to follow
This is the first time Iโve read into the Historical richness of the New Testament, and this book made it fairly easy to follow. In a layout sense, the book does not condense the wording like others do and it provides a large number of imageries that help a reader visualize the moments or places of History. I also felt the outline of each chapter and the flow from chapter to chapter was very well placed, with the exception of terminology. Some terms seemed harder to grasp than others, as some of the terms did not provide an actual meaning (but rather pronunciations). When it comes to the content of the actual book, I was amazed. As I read, I would often feel as if I was there in that time period surrounded by the different people experiencing what became the New Testament. Learning about who Paul was, is probably what had me the most intrigued, and as I read I felt like I met a whole new person. I read who Paul was as a Pharisee, a person, and as a follower โ but could visualize it as if a film was playing. At times, I felt overwhelmed with all the content (Mind you I am no History Major) but I was very impressed with how much history can be found in this book. I purchased this solely as a requirement for my college course, but I think Iโll be holding on to this one. I think this book would be a great addition to local public or church libraries.

Great study referwncw
Essential reading for any Christian scholar. I purchased the hardcover text for class and bought the kindle version so I could do the reading and study while working out on the treadmill and the stationary bike at the gym. Text to voice added a total immersive element, but there are some things about text to voice that really perturb me. Anytime the kindle is dislodged or jostled, or if you initiate A manual page change, You have to restart T to V. Not a big deal, but awkward to do while walking 4 mph. As another user mentioned, the Kindle version does not include page numbers, which are required for assignments that quote from the textbook.

The Best survey out there.
Gundry is helpful, informative and succinct. He has a remarkable grasp of all the major issues as they affect the study of the Word of God. He appropriately engages the relevant topics as required and gives the student a solid introduction to the world of the NT. The many colourful illustrations are also of great benefit to the text.
