I know its pricey for a shaving brush, but you pay for what you get. This is extremely well made and I can see this lasting for many years to come as long as its taken care of. It dries well and I have had no bristle loss. I would highly recommend it if you are considering taking the plunge.

I've used this for a couple years now, and it's my favorite. I'm not thrilled by the larger brushes and this one is the right size. It has lost almost no bristles and is very soft on my skin. I also have 5 other brushes and I almost always choose this and a quality boar bristle over the others. I really don't like the synthetic brushes. They don't hold water well and are cold.

The X3 knot is probably too large. In our humid Malaysia climate, the X3 brush does not dry and is a bit stinky. In photo it is compared to my 50 year what GPT reports is a Model 59. The 59 is looking a bit threadbare but it lathers at least as well as the new Commodore. The tired smaller knot on the old brush dries much more quickly than the new brush. I like them both but the old 59 has been through a lot with me. It gets uglier with use and age, darkening more every year and leaves a light yellow ring on white marble. Simpson should offer long handles again. Simpson brushes are still the best.....

Not so soft that there's not enough backbone as some ppl have said in their reviews. Brush has nice backbone and yes, the boat hair is soft alright. Size is big compared to other brushes. Check out the pic below. For reference I have put it next to a coffee mug to give you an idea of its size. Makes great lather and stays moist and warmer than a boar brush. These come sterilized from the factory and ready to use. The handle is faux ivory, still nice though. Before this brush I owned two Omega bore brushes with resin (plastic) handles which split and cracked at the base of the knot in less than one years' time. I am hoping this will not be the case with Simpsons. From my research on this, I have learned that I might have been putting the brush in water too hot for the handle and that this might have caused the bristle to expand and crack the plastic. Who doesn't want a hot shave? I was using a scuttle and putting it in the microwave for really hot water. From now on its just going to be warm tap water for my new brush.
