I've had Tinea Versicolor for as long as I can remember. Huge blotches covering my chest, stomach, back, thighs, and part of my arms.I tried so many methods to get rid of it with little result. I didn't want to take medication for the rest of my life just for it to come back when I stopped, so I tried to accept it, not without difficulty. I read months ago that Black African Soap really helps and so I went to my local grocery store and picked up Shea Moisture's Eczema and Psoriasis Therapy bar and used it without much hope. To my suprise, my TV was actually going away for the first time! I felt more confidence over my body than ever, like it may be possible for me to have nice skin too. As long as I used the bar every other day, my skin remained clear, otherwise it would start coming back. The only issue was that I knew the bar was a mainstream version of Black African Soap and not the real thing. It had fragrances and other questionable ingredients as well and it was pure black. After I finished the bar, I was going to get the natural, real deal, so here I am with my first purchase of this soap. Same deal with all the other reviews. Helpful seller (my package had arrived even before I received the email), soft soap, make sure you don't leave it in a wet environment, how it's not attractive, but of course, that should be expected from an all natural product made from age old techniques. I read that it's good for exfoliation, but that is soooo wrong. Maybe for the first use, but when you really start using the bars, those pieces of ash are very rough, very sharp, and scratch harshly more than anything. I still rub the bar over my body at times, usually from laziness, but taking the time to lather well is worth it. The bars smell natural, smokey. Not offensive. I was able to cut quite a few bars from the original block and I wrapped the rest in plastic wrap. I've been using this almost daily for a few weeks now. My TV isn't coming back (I don't think so at least), but I also don't notice it going away either. The blotches were already coming back by the time I started using it, as I had been using yet another Black African Soap style bar I got from the store. I'm keeping an eye on them and will continue to use this product. I do feel like my skin in general is more exfoliated (even with just the lather), even having a "squeaky clean" feeling since I have much less skin shedding or skin coming off, especially from those blotches. So maybe that's something. This is the only soap I am using on my body so I'm going to continue experimenting with it alone and update any changes or lack of change I see. Wish me luck! 11/19/16 UPDATE: So my TV is still here. It might be partially do to my environment, but it never went away entirely. My TV keeps fading, then coming back. This soap never cleared it up completely, although I was suprised how well it helped to clear up my Keratosis Pilaris. My upper arms are so much smoother for the first time in years. My arms are touchable now and I feel much more confident wearing sleevless tops. I continue to use it every day, but I'm going to check out other black african soaps, since clearing up my TV is my main priority. I definitely would buy this again though.

Good product

I purchased this soap because of the cleansing properties. The soap comes with a letter of warning to test it out on your skin before you decide to commit. I read the warnings, tested out the soap on a patch of my skin and I had no reaction. I followed the instructions for use. I loved the fact that it completely cleaned my skin! I used shea butter lotion (Palmers) after every wash (which I only used 3 days a week). 3 weeks ago, I woke up to my thigh itching something awful. I scratched like crazy and developed bumps. I put some Cortisone on it and it went away. Something told me to back off the soap for a bit. I just had a feeling. A week later, I tried the soap again. Nothing happened, until a few days later when I noticed my arms where itching like crazy! It spread to my hands then my legs, then my feet. I was itching all over. I did some research and this soap will dry out your skin to the point where you can, if you are sensitive enough, develop contact dermatitis. I didn't think it would effect me because I had no reaction when I tested it on my skin. I really hoped it wasn't the soap because it is really good at ridding your skin of impurities and dirt. But in the end, the only thing that could've cause me to break out in a rash all over is this soap. I'm still itching all over, especially my hands (I used wash gloves). I'll have to go to a dermatologist soon to get some relief from the itching.

This soap doesn’t have the magical properties everyone seems to think it does. Before you buy it, you need to understand that its effect on acne largely depends on the source of it. Mine is mostly hormonal and this is basically useless for it, along with most of everything I’ve tried. I knew going in that it would be. But I bought it mainly for its claims that it will clear up acne scars over a period of time. My face isn’t super oily, but it isn’t naturally dry either. This soap did a number on me. My cheeks feel like sandpaper after every use. My face burns and is irritated along with pimples that are going strong. This soap strips my face of ALL oils and I try to avoid using cleansers/soaps that do this because I’ve tried several moisturizers that surprise surprise, break my skin out. So, it’s sort of a lose-lose situation for me. I finally threw in the towel and officially gave up on this soap today. I’d love to know if it actually lightens acne dark spots over time, but I just cannot stand to use it any longer. I have also come to two conclusions, one painful to accept. One, this soap would be awesome for someone with a chronically oily face. My mom, for instance. I cut her a block of it and she loves it. Felt her face and it’s smooth as a baby’s bottom. Two, there are NO OTC products that will cure or even treat hormonal acne and I refuse to take crap that will give me weird side effects. Junk like this soap, clean and clear, neutrogina, clearasil, and blah blah blah are only effective for people whose acne is caused by oily skin. Their pores are clogged and all those gimmick creams and cleansers do is fool them into practicing a good skin care regimen (which is all they needed in the first place). I, on the other hand, can scrub my face night and day until it’s raw, and I will still get acne. So, I officially give up. The only thing I’ll admit about this soap is, again, it is VERY effective at removing dirt and oils. If you have dry skin, avoid it like the plague.
