These are high-quality grab bars. I spent a lot of time looking at various brands, and in particular how they mount. The mounting plates of these bars are welded to the bar, so you can attach them solidly with the supplied screws, and then slide the covers into place. The mounting plates have holes alternating with curved slots all the way around, for more mounting options. Some other brands I looked at appeared to only have four holes, 90 degrees apart. The instructions for these Moen bars recommend using three screws at each end (six screws are supplied with each bar), two on the top side of the mount and one underneath. I mounted two of the 24" bars vertically, offsetting the top center screw hole maybe 1/4" from where my studfinder showed the center of the stud to be. That allowed me to put a second screw through the slot just below and to one side of the first screw, and a third screw in the bottom slot just to the same side of the bar as the second screw (not much clearance to get a screwdriver in there, but it worked) . I repeated that on the other end, and all six screws hit the stud. VERY secure mount. The peened surface on the middle portion of the bar provides a secure hand grip. I wish they sold a 16" version, to be able to install it horizontally with 16"-center studs. As it is, the 18" version would have to be installed at a slant. I used a 4mm ceramic/glass drill bit to drill through the tile, then a 1/8" regular bit (as specified in Moen's instructions) to drill a pilot hole into the stud.

Moen peened grab bars - 24 & 32in Both of excellent quality easy to install into STUDS, drill holes important to note. Drilled a 3.2mm as directed. Screws would not go through hardwood studs. I than drilled 4mm that worked fine. Hole drilled to length of screw. This through chip rock/plasterboard. Installing in tiled shower used 4mm through tile into hardwood stud. Installing first screw caused chipping in tile, re-drilled the hole through tile with 5mm bit. Worked perfectly. Also suggest using liquid/hard to lubricate screw. For wet areas, use silicone over screws to prevent water from entering holes in tiles.

Quality grab bar, six screws included in the package. I am an OT practitioner and recommend grab bars in the home very often. One issue I find with many grab bars is that when mounting horizontally (based on wall studs 16" on center framing construction) the consumer purchases bars that do not fit to the stud distance requiring toggle-style non-stud mounting anchor(s). Example being 42" grab bar. This particular grab bar will fit based on 16" distance between stud centers. Per the instruction sheet- "The patented Secure Mount design (of this particular grab bar) makes grab bar installation easier and more secure with an innovative design that features multiple slots for screws, allowing secure connection with three screws into the wood stud at any angle." As a general rule of thumb when installing a horizontally oriented grab bar for a specific person I use this floor to grab bar distancing method- I use wrist height. Have the person stand straight and relax their arms at their sides. The top of the grab bar should line up with the crease on the inside of the wrist, this should give a 15° +/- and at the elbow when grasping the bar. This is just a general rule of thumb that I use but may vary depending on use by multiple individuals, the posture of the individual or other physical characteristics. Hope this helps :)

I was concerned if this would work well for an overhead mount, as they are not technically recommended for such. But once I located the Joists and was able to get a couple of screws in at a 40 - 60 degree angle, and another two at 90 degrees at each end. I knew they would stay put and hold up to a 200 LB pull out (after checking engineering specs on fasteners on angels). The snap on matching flanges work perfectly to hide the screws that project a bit due to the mounting angle. While I pre-drilled the holes, I still stripped 3 of the 6 enclosed screws. I went with Torx head deck screws that did the trick and did not strip out under a long angle drive on old, dry, and hard doug fir Floor joists. Looks great and makes the bunk much safer to get in and out of. An excellent value and investment. I'll go easy and give them 5 stars even though the screws are not Torx or Square Head and therefore more difficult to drive their full length without over drilling the pilot hole (which the instructions do not mention). Also the screws were only 2.5" inches at most, and likely not stainless steel. But the price and quality of the bar is fantastic and almost half the price of the local hardware store. Who I give plenty of business on "right now" purchases.

Easy install, quality (stainless) screws that don't round out when torque applied
