size?? is it squared or rectangular?

I bought two of the Grey shemaghs. They're both 42" x 40," so they're actually slightly rectangular. But both look square. I've worn both to the shooting range over a dozen times, and I've washed them after each trip. They're definitely colorfast, in accordance with the textile industry's definition of colorfastness. In other words, the colors have faded as expected, but ever so slightly. As far as shrinkage is concerned, I've found over the years that not many people know that 100% cotton fabrics, by nature, shrink, expecially if they're dried in mechanical dryers. I've been washing my shemaghs in cold water with regular detergent (Tide Ultra for HE washers), and then air drying them. I've therefore kept the shrinkage to about 1% to 3%, which is normal for 100% cotton. Oh, by the way, I used to be in the textile and textile machinery industry.

Has anyone purchased the purple? Curious as to how accurate the color pictured is. I would like a darker shade personally.

The image is 100% accurate. The purple shemagh is lavender in color.

Where are these made?

If I am not mistaken it is Pakistan. Just used one in a blizzard. Still like it more than the heavier ones I own.

I washed/dried it and a lot of the black thread broke, now there are fairly big broken patches and one extra "tassel" is that supposed to happen?

I don't think so. I washed two of these things that I had purchased, but when I took them out of the washing machine, I laid them out across my bed to dry......I was afraid to put them in the dryer because of how thin they felt. But washing them in the machine didn't cause any type of damage to mine.

Second one I've owned. First one finally ripped after over 2 years. Possibly my fault, won't be so aggressive tugging at the new one. Its 100% cotton, so it'll shrink bit after wash and dry...to a perfect size IMO. Pro tip-the "tan" color will fade after each wash to where it eventually becomes an "off-white"'ish color. I like it. The white on is exactly that, white. A bit loud for my taste. Pretty darn reasonable for $11 shipped as of 12/17/25.
