DMT (Diamond Machining Technology) Double Sided Diafold Sharpener - Fine

I have a full set of these handy sharpeners and while I don’t think they are great for finish work, they work great on knives in the field. I have a coarse one for hatchets and such plus a fine and extra fine for my knives. I carry average quality knives so they don’t have exotic metals that never rust or get dull. They need occasional touch ups to stay sharp. I have found that the extended length from the folding handles are really helpful to keep the angle of the blade precise allowing the smaller sharpening surface to act like a much larger stone. The handle also protects the hone when folded up. I haven’t found anything more durable, handy and compact than these sharpening stones.

Over the years I have used other DMT sharpeners for woodworking tools and kitchen knives and have been very satisfied. But when first opening this 'Double Sided Diafold Sharpener - Fine' I was afraid the plastic handle would snap. I fixed it by sliding a 1" square of worn 400 grit wet-dry auto-body sandpaper into the hinge points and working it. I still left 5 stars because of the quality of the sharpening surface itself.

Great product. The grit is consistent and long lasting.I would like to throw one note out there though. I also have the DMT guided sharpening system which uses a magnet for the rod attachment...This sharpener is ONE SIDED and while the magnet does still work with this sharpener it does not stick very securely because there is no metal of the side opposite the sharpening surface.If you own the magnetic guide system do yourself a service by buying ONLY double sided sharpeners.

I like these files, an own the Blue/Red and Green/Tan, double-sided files. I thought I'd fill it out with a Black X Coarse file, actually was hoping for a double-sided Silver/Black. I went on the main picture, an it looks like a Black X Coarse file to me...this is my mistake, I didn't read the description, the packaging is such that, I had to cut it and tear it open. It's life, always usable.

The DMT line of sharpening products are the best that money can buy (well, smart money that is). I am certain that you can pay more, but if you purchase DMT, you will never regret spending that money. Take the time to read the directions. Do not apply too much pressure during the first few times you use their sharpening products. I use this "Extra Coarse" sharpener, primarily for gardening tools. You will be amazed at how much easier a sharp shovel or hand trowel is to use than a dull one. If you are a camper or outdoors person, this will make ax sharpening a breeze (again, a sharp ax is a safe ax, wood cutting becomes effortless, the blade never seems to bounce out or off of the wood). I did, however, gorilla glue a piece of metal to the back so I could use this in the standard, magnetic, DMT angle sharpener gizmo.

I bought a few of these in various levels -- fine, extra fine, and course at the recommendation of a YouTuber (Matt from Celebrating Appalachia) and they're excellent for keeping your knives and blades on-point. I highly-recommend these!

Built chip. Piece of plastic broke off the first time I opened it. Maybe I got a bad one. Still usable but I have to be extra careful with it.
