Would this be required to safely rip (via table saw) about 1/4 - 1/8 inch off baseboards when using the Gripper?

1. No matter what method you use, it's still possible to harm yourself.2. Using a gripper is probably a safer (but not totally so) way to rip.3. I strongly advise reading a good text on safe ripping. I've experienced projectile effects that would not have been prevented by a Gripper. 4. So-called safety devices are neither fool proof nor idiot proof. Don't stop thinking for even a fraction of a second!

what is the difference with the improved version?

There is no “improved” version of the 1/8” Leg accessory. The 1/8” leg works with both our GR-100 and GR-200 models of GRR-RIPPER. We have updated the legs that come with the GRR-RIPPERs over the years, but the 1/8” leg will work with any GRR-RIPPER however old.
