Wow!
Im absolutely sold on this product. The problem with your foreman style grills is obvious, it weighs down and squeezes everything out. Thats of course good to get some grease out if you're cooking really fatty ground beef or something, but if you're buying 80/85%, or cooking chicken, you don't want to do that. I can't find any fault on this product at all. This thing really does every meat that i've done so far (chicken breast, hamburger, minute steak) deliciously. Does it take a little longer than a press style grill, but the meats taste so much better, chicken most of all comes out juicy and really, really good. You absolutely don't need to use spray oil & that likely causes the smoky-ness that people have noted; just be sure to flip meat with a silicone spatula. Cleaning is easy. get some hot water going, pull the grill out and just wipe down with wet paper towels on both sides, dry off & its ready. Treat yourself, spend an extra few bucks and buy this thing! ***Six Month Update*** Im still in love with this thing. The people who complain about the finish chipping off, I don't know what you're doing. but I just hand clean the grill with wet paper towels and hot water, and everything cleans off great. If you put this in your dishwasher, you're a doofus because you know the dishwasher is going to mess up something like this. I've only had it smoke-up a couple times, and that was because i didn't clean the bottom part as well as the top, & there was some food residue under there. Don't neglect the bottom. Cooking wise it is easily the best appliance i've ever owned in terms of its functionality. One thing I've learned is with thicker burgers, its best to keep the temperature in the 250-300 range and flip every 4 minutes or so. Same thing with thick chicken breast. Steaks, I like medium so I get the thing super hot, sear each side for a minute and a half, then drop the heat to finish to my taste. And lastly, I love being able to make a meat & vegetable meal that comes out this good in the dead of winter when i'm not going out & using my gas grill.

Love George Forman, but this grill is better.
I really love this grill! I have 2 foreman grills but this one seems to cook better for me in that 1) it has a temperature knob rather than just high, low settings. 2). The removable tray underneath is cleaner and holds more than the tray that rests in front of foreman grills, which have no slotted openings like a real grill but rather tilt downward for the grease to exit. I find this style causes the food to cook in less grease. 3) everything but the base is removable for cleaning and I have put the grill piece, tray and metal lid in the dishwasher without any issues. And lastly, 4) the lid does not press down on the food like most Forman grills which helps when adding cheese to burgers and I find also keeps steaks and chicken from drying out. It forms a steam since the top closes in on the food like a grill lid whereas the Forman presses down like a panini maker but heat and steam escape from the sides. Burgers and meats are far less dry if slightly over cooking them, which I found happens often with Foreman. I can fit 3 large sized burgers on the slotted grill area (in a triangle design) plus asparagus, onions or any assorted grilled veggies on un-slotted side, which is about 2" wide. It fits about 4-5 slider burgers. And it fits 2-3 medium sized NY strip steaks; but not more than 2 t-bones at a time. I have also cooked 3-4 filets on it with no problem. I have a family of 3 adult eaters so it works well for me. 2 adults and 2 kid families could probably get away with this size also, but if you are in need of cooking for 5 you should probably try a larger grill. Although burgers do cook within a matter of about 3-5 minutes so I've found I can cook more in a reasonable amour of time if necessary and it sure beats the task of cleaning the larger grill on our deck! Also, this leaves much better grill-lines on it than Foreman's grill. Great purchase... I use it weekly.

Great little electric grill ๐
Works like a Champ! Currently using it on our vacation to Orange Beach. Have grilled Burgers, Chicken and Filet Steaks last night. Was able to cook 8 filets at one time. Easy to lift off cover, Drip pan, and lift out grill for easy cleaning. Works great !

New Buyers Beware! - updated
I initially bought this item back in 2020 and I LOVED it. It was absolutely GREAT as a kitchen counter top electric grill. The cook surface heated evenly, it was easy to clean, everything about it was GREAT. Well, I used the item so much that over time it just got worn down and it came time for replacement. I replaced it with the exact same model in November of 2025. However, the new replacement unit was not the same. It did looks the same visually, and the operation of it with the control knob was the same.... but it was still NOT the same unit. The actual cook grill would give off a very funky odor every time it heated up. Almost like a burning chemical smell. Also, any food that I put on the cook grill would stick terribly. And when I say it would stick, I mean I literally would have to use a spatula to scrape the food off the grill because the bottom of the food would attach itself to the cook grill. I tried using non-stick cooking spray and that didn't help at all. I tried running the grill through the dishwasher a few times, still the same issue. Keep in mind, the original unit had no stick problems at all. I never needed non-stock spray. This new unit was so bad with the sticking that it was unusable. Finally after 5 or 6 uses and it just destroying my food due to the sticking issues I got fed up and called the manufacture (H.B.) support line. I told them the problem. I explained how the original unit was great, but this new one was so problematic. The woman that I spoke with told me that within the last few months they changed the way that they coat the cooking grill because whatever chemical they used previously was no longer allowed in certain states and for that reason they have recently (as of late 2025) been doing something different to the cook grill. They are shipping me out a new cook grill under warranty just in case I got a bad one. However, knowing that they completely changed how they coat the cook top has me concerned that maybe I didn't get a "faulty" grill, and maybe the problem is whatever change they made was a bad decision as far as how the problem performs. Once I receive the new cook top I'll post another update, but to anyone reading the reviews for this item currently - BEWARE. Yes, at one point this WAS a great product there were changes made in late 2025 and at least in my personal experience those changes really hurt the product. If my cook top just happened to be faulty, I'll post an update with that info once I receive the new cook top and confirm. But if my cook top isn't "faulty" and is just a product of these 2025 changes that they made with the chemical coating then this is a 0 star product and a piece of junk. So beware when you read any reviews that might be a little bit older, because those reviews would be from when this actually was a great product lol. *UPDATE - I did get the replacement cooktop for the grill and after using it for the first time it seems like that terrible stick problem is gone!! So, in regards to my above review, they DID make a change to the way they coated the cooktop for anti-stick at some point in 2025 and honestly, the older coating that they used was much, much better. But that being said, the cooktop that was causing terrible stick issues was in-fact defective (maybe it never got coated?) because the replacement cooktop that they sent me is much better with the no-stick.... So my final review for this item is 4 stars. The original version of this item, back before 2025 was a 5 star product. It was absolutely awesome. But the current version of this product, that uses the different no-stick coating on the cooktop is 4 stars just because it's not quite as good - although it is not the absolute disaster that I was talking about above (that ended up being a defective cooktop)

LOVE this grill, no more using the big gas grill outside!
I'm recently cooking for just one again, and I love grilled foods... but pulling out the huge gas grill just to make one steak, one hamburger, or one of anything just seemed to be too much for me. Plus, my hubby always changed out the big tanks for me, and since I lost him, I just don't feel comfortable doing that myself. So, I decided to try one of those new fangled indoor smokeless grills. And I decided on this one because #1. I have never been disappointed with a Hamilton Beach product and #2. I liked the idea of the searing grill! I am very happy that I did choose this one! It works WONDERFULLY! The first thing I tried was a nice boneless rib eye steak. I followed the direction to a T, tested the internal temp before removing it from the grill, and I had the most tender, perfectly cooked steak! My next "test" was a bone-in center cut pork chop, along with a zucchini, onion and sweet potato to go with. Here, I made a mistake by not reading the instructions perfectly before hand, and I started the chop before starting the veggies. So, by the time my chop was done, the veggies were still a bit too crisp and undercooked for my liking. But that was MY fault, not the grill's. Third time was the charm, same ingredients only this time I tried a boneless chop. I started the veggies a bit before the meat, with the setting on sear... then added the meat, started the meat timer (NOT included, just my own digital timer), turned down the heat when I turned the meat and veggies... and ended up with a DELISH dinner, with everything cooked to perfection! And to my surprise, every single time I cook a chop on this thing I get a PERFECTLY cooked chop, tender, moist, and cooked to perfection! Next up was a good ol' hamburger. This thing cooks a delish burger in the time it takes to heat up my large outdoor gas grill, and I end up with a burger that is cooked to the doneness I want, is juicy, tender, and I didn't have to pull out that huge grill! One night I decided I just wanted grilled veggies for dinner, so I settled on sweet potato, tomatoes, sweet onion and green peppers. I DID add some flour to the tomatoes, but just seasonings on the other veggies. And again, everything cooked to perfection, tasted wonderful, and this has become an often cooked meal at my house now. I honestly use this grill at LEAST 3 times a week now, and the only thing I've made that was excellent was one steak, that was cooked to perfection but was just a lousy tough mess, and it was the steak, not the grill! Now, one thing that's easy about an outside, gas grill is clean up. Turn up that baby to high for a few minutes, then run a brush over it, right? Or in my case, and stainless steal scrubber that doesn't shed bristles that can get caught in your food. ANYway, clean up with this grill is even easier than that! A quick rinse under hot water and 99% of the burned on crumblies just rinse away, and a quick wipe with a soapy sponge leaves me with a perfectly cleaned grill. The drip try slides out and is just as easy to clean. The lid slide off and again, just a quick wipe with a soap sponge and it's good to go! I mentioned my new grill to a neighbor, and showed them a pic of one of my completed meals (yes, I take pics of my cooking!) and next thing I knew, she was asking me how to clean it properly, she went and ordered one for herself. And just so everyone understands this, the grill comes out of the appliance easily, just lift it up, and the removable parts all ALL able to be submerged in soapy water! She was afraid of getting the two pronged "connectors" wet, but you don't have to worry about that, the only part that can't be submerged is the actual body of the grill, the part that has the cord attached to it! I have since posted about my new kitchen love affair on a diet site that I frequent, and so far, 3 of my online buddies have also purchased this fantastic grill. And every last one of them thanks me every time they use it, saying it's the easiest thing to clean, that it does such a great job of grilling all their different foods, and not one of them has had a single complaint about this searing grill! And I do have to admit, my food LOOKS prettier when it comes off this grill than when I would cook on the big gas grill, the colors are better, less burned/browned, less overcooked, less smoky looking. Hey food appearance can make a difference in taste, too! So, all in all, I simply LOVE my searing grill. It makes everything easy to cook, from burgers to links to steaks to shrimp to veggies and even to tomatoes! I couldn't be more pleased with my grill. OH and I forgot to mention, I have NEVER had to grease this baby, no quick sprays of oil, no rubbing it down before heating... nothing sticks to it, which is why it is so very easy to clean! SO my food is also lower in calories, especially my veggies which I would always spray with oil before putting on the grill! Now, I just sprinkle spices and cook! I give this appliance 2 thumbs up and wish I had a few more thumbs to give to it!

Superior, well designed product. A cut above the rest.
Below are several reasons I chose this particular grill. I feel each is important which makes this a superior product in my view. - It sears - does a great job. - It has actual temperature indicators on the dial, not just low-medium-high settings. The settings are 200, 250, 300, 350, 400 and sear (which is 450). This temperature feature gives you greater control. - The unit is 1200 watts (not 1800) which would work great in an RV. It only uses 3 volts according to our meter and 10 amps. And it gets VERY hot. - The lid design is extremely well thought out. First of all - it has one! And with this particular lid design, you will find little difference between this grill and an outdoor grill (other than the quantity of food you can grill at one time on an outdoor grill). In addition to heat retention, the lid is quite high above the grill plate so you don't have to worry about fitting larger, thicker items (such as really large chicken breasts or thick cut steaks and ribs) on the grill. This is the reason I didn't consider the Delonghi Perfecto which received complaints about the lid touching the meat. - It's not a contact grill. This was important because I want to control the cooking - not be controlled by the grill. I want to turn the meat at my discretion and I like to keep the juices in - not have them squeezed out by the weight of a top plate. Then there's that searing thing again (which is great.) - The meat doesn't sit in grease while cooking. Since the grill plate is "slatted" and not solid like our old Presto, this is not a concern just as it is not a concern with an outdoor grill - same design. The grease drains off naturally and falls between the grates into the drip tray. - The heating element is embedded in the grill plate, so no worry about hot and cold spots. - The cleanup is easy enough. - Not overly heavy. Easily transportable. - If important to you, the unit is attractive to leave out on the counter. I feel there is precious little difference between this grill and an outdoor grill when it comes to both design and performance. As I said this grill is plenty HOT - preheat as directed just as with other grills. For us this was a great purchase - well pleased.

Great indoor grill for the price
This is absolutely great for an easy grill cooked flavor. This might be my new favorite kitchen gadget. The size might be too small if you plan on using this for a household with more than 2-3 people. It cooks just enough for a full meal for my wife and I. It does need to be oiled before each use with some high heat oil. It is not non-stick without it although it is coated. Hope the coating is durable. It comes apart easily for cleaning.

A-Okay to Grill Indoors
Okay... I really like this grill but at the same time I don't. Great to grill indoors right? I must say, I LOVE the smell of grilling in my apartments. makes it so hard to focus on other tasks at home when the smell is so tantalizing. However, I will have to knock off 2 stars because 1- The grill marks are not really the grillmarks you want. If you have sugar in your foods like in your marinades, it will just crust up. I don't like that it just burns and crusts up like the GF grill does. I know it's because of the grill plate make, but I don't like the burnt grill marks. 2- It doesn't really "grill" like a gas or charcoal grill. I will say, it kind of grills, but kind of doesn't. Overall, I like the quality. For roughly over $65, you can cook inside and have the aroma of a grill. The taste/texture of the meat is hit or miss depending on what you're cooking. I've grilled meats with this and finished them in the oven. I think next i'll do the opposite to see if it tastes better. But beware of the sugar in your marinades. Also, it gets pretty smokey in my apartment. I read through several reviews before purchasing, and a lot of people who claimed to have tiny apartments said the ventilation is good. Maybe my vent in my kitchen sucks... but I found that with my small apartment, I had to make sure to vent/air it out pretty well or else the smoke lingers for a few days. I think it's good size for an indoor grill, and clean up is sooo easy! Everything else gets a 4.5 stars, but the overall is about a 3.5 if I could round up. I'd def recommend if you desperately want to grill indoors; this gives you that nostalgia you are looking for. Otherwise, save it for the outdoors.

Fantastic, affordable indoor grill that rivals gas/charcoal BBQ flavour!
We just got this and already have cooked jumbo wieners for hot dogs and made shish-kabobs (chicken, onion, pineapple, yellow pepper, mushroom). They turned out absolutely scrumptious and tasted about the same as our gas and charcoal grilled food. This thing is just amazing and is so easy to clean - everything just wipes right off. Have yet to wash it in the dishwasher but will get around to that. Oh also so far, no smoke or smell throughout our home from this. So far so good, hopefully it'll be the same for steaks and hamburgers too. I wanted to say the grill marks look great and meat is very juicy/tender in the middle. Heats up quickly too! Tonight we're cooking hamburgers on it and tomorrow, steaks. :) Hopefully this will work well for the next couple of years, if it lasts that long that's good enough for us and we'll buy another or upgrade if there's a newer model. Worth every penny spent and highly recommend! Edit: Have now cooked steak and hamburgers on it also, with BBQ sauce (small amount of sauce). Cooking both generated quite a lot of smoke! I'd recommend not using any BBQ sauce at all unless it's put on near the end of cooking.
