easy to use. Effective.
this easy to use device helped my husband to participate in group discussions. His hearing loss is severe and even expensive hearing aids were becoming insufficient.

Great for non-noisy environments
I bought this for my husband, who is hard of hearing. He uses it to watch television so the volume does not need to be so high. It worked very well. The only issue was when he bumped it or moved it, there was a lot of static that came through, so it is better if you are able to set it down where it will not be disturbed while in use. We would also not recommend using it in an environment where there is a lot of background noise, because it picks up everything. The sound quality is very good. We are looking forward to trying it out in the near future when we go to a few Broadway shows and a play in NYC. We have not used it long enough to know how long the 2 AAA batteries last before needing to be replaced. However, we have rechargeable batteries that we can also use in it, so that is not an issue. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the static that is heard when it is moved, and we thought it was a little pricey. Otherwise, it is a very good product.

Be informed, reap the rewards of this product
I can only imagine the benefit those of you with mild to moderate hearing loss may receive from this device. The Pocket Talker is not designed for those of us with severe or profound hearing impairment, my status. More about me at the bottom, but I want to make a couple recommendations to those of you considering Pocket Talker. Spend a few minutes educating yourself about the Pocket Talker, what it can and cannot do for you, your hearing issues. Be sure to understand ‘background noise’. An informed decision will better serve you and minimize or prevent misunderstandings after the purchase. In simple terms, the Pocket Talker provides the ability to amply sound, and to make some tone adjustments. In event first-use does not meet your expectations, be patient, it most likely will take a little time for you to acclimate. Now about my hearing; I am profoundly hearing impaired, ‘legally deaf’ by definition. Hearing aids do not help me, cochlear implant is my only option, but I am at risk of the surgery due to other medical issues. Currently nothing out there will remedy my impairment. I purchased a Pocket Talker in hopes I could gain even a minuscule improvement in a specific situation, and I did. Once a week, I attend a group meeting environment where twelve people in one room are speaking individually, this is my weekly bible study. Reading lips along with the ability of naturally hearing (unassisted) a very low volume helps me understand some of what is being said. What I naturally hear is similar to distant conversation, not discernable. By having the ability to raise the level of sound ever so slightly is a bit of improvement. The Pocket Talker Ultra 2 does not restore my hearing to an understandable level, but it helps a bit in this setting, and I am most thankful to have it.

When hearing aids don't work well enough please give this a try.
This was a purchase for my mother who is 95 years old. Hearing aids were just not working for her and we had tried three different pairs quite expensive. So I thought I would try the pocket talker, for the first time in a long long time my mother can hear. This is a phenomenal tool and I highly recommend giving it a try if you've had trouble with hearing aids. My mom can now hear my dad rummaging around in the kitchen from the living room which is at the other end of the house it has been amazing for her. We can have full conversations again it's just been a game changer.

Yes I can hear you now
Just got mine delivered today. I’m so glad that my neighbors can’t hear what I’m listening to on tv any more. It’s so nice to hear my husband clearly without him having to raise his voice to talk to me. I just finished 2 weeks of rehab and because of my not being able to hear well they loaned me there pockettalker while I was there. I cannot use hearing aids because I wear oxygen 24/7 and it makes hearing aids squeal. This is the answer to my hearing problem. I would recommend them to anyone with a hearing disability

Great hearing device, BUT...
This is definitely the best pocket talker model! Sadly, the mic extension does not work - the mic itself does not fit into it. (therefore, 4 stars) That's frustrating, not sure how to return one item from an otherwise wonderful device. arrived on time. only time will tell re durability. UPDATE TO PREVIOUS REVIEW: this is a fantastic device when it works. my husband is 77 yrs and in hospital. the sound quality started 'crackling/buzzing' after less than 3 weeks. none of the attachments work, external mic buzzes and doesn't fit on the extension which i was counting on for tv hearing. nonetheless, conversations became possible until the buzzing started. It's a very expensive device to stop functioning properly after less than 3 weeks of use. with my husband in hospital, i've lost track of where the extra attachments are. is it possible to simply return the amplifier for a new one in the hope that this is a unique failing device?

works very well but only for 6 months or so
This product is the only one I've found that actually allows me to hear. My hearing loss has progressed to functionally deaf and I do not hear myself speaking at normal levels. I must wear the pocket talker all day and go through 2 batteries weekly. It is the only one with a lanyard and fastener to the microphone part so that it can be worn around the neck. Others have a clip or nothing to fasten with and they get dropped or misplaced. My problem is that this is also expensive and quits functioning after about 6 months. Either the plug-in earphone jack loosens or something else is going on but this is my third Pocket Talker with the same problem. All in all, I must have it and have found no other that will turn up loud enough.

Not bad at all!
Bought this to my father based on his ENT recommendation as temp solution and it’s working perfectly. Very clear and no noise at all. One thing tho is the headphone is a bit tight.

Great Quality Product
I really love this device. I tried hearing aids and they hurt my small ear canals. This device is an excellent alternative. It works great. You can even adjust the tone for the sound level you have difficulty hearing at. For example, I have more difficulty hearing higher tones so I just adjusted the device to accommodate for that deficit. The headset is stereo. The device and accessories are high quality. Even the mic is excellent. There a very long extension cord to which you can attach the mic for meetings or watching TV. The only caveat is that it is difficult to connect the mic into the extension female input. Apparently you have to jam the mic in the first few times so be prepared! Overall, this device is a wonderful option for someone who can't or doesn't want to wear hearing aids. By the way, I had some questions about the device and contacted the manufacturer. A Customer Service Rep answered the phone after just a few rings and thoroughly responded to everything I asked. I was very impressed. I highly recommend this device.

A great little device but has room for improvement
I bought this device for my 99 year old father who has extreme hearing loss...and added medical issues so that his hearing aids aren't working for him. We are currently waiting to see a specialist, but for the interim he needed hearing assistance of some kind. I found the PocketTalker and purchased it for him. It works well for him on the 4.5 level, but because of a poor seal of the ear canal there is huge feedback. I ended up putting the earbuds in his ears and holding them in place with the headset. Neither one worked well on its own. It seemed to stop the feedback, but ended up with too many wires. I have since purchased a very good wired headset that really cups the ears. So far its working well. The little machine is great, just an improvement on the ear buds and headset with an extension line...or maybe even made to be wireless would be wonderful. All in all it is still allowing my dad to hear again until we get the proper medical assessment, which is so wonderful and less frustrating for him. Kudos to the inventor of this product.

Very helpful
Bought two of these for elderly family members with hearing aids. With hearing aids they still had problems hearing, with using the pocket talker(no hearing aids) they are carrying on full conversations and so happy to be able to hear. We are able to talk at normal volume and distance and still have great conversations - it’s been years since we have been able to do that!! The only negative feedback that they had was the back battery cover falls off too easily.
