I usually do my grip exercises while I'm watching tv. My dog perks her ears up and stares at me or even leaves the couch while I use other grip exercisers, but not with the Grip Master Pro. I use the XX-Heavy Tension so I would imagine a looser/easier spring would be just as quiet. I hope this helps! **Q: Are you suppose to grip it like in the picture shown? To me it feels awkward to press with the tips of your finger as opposed to letting it overlap...** A: Gripping with the tips (pressing) of your fingers strengthens your fingers better than if you lay your finger across the plungers I think. But you can use it any way you'd like. I do a series of reps fingertip/trigger style/double and even switch it around for my thumb. The more you use it, the easier it is to use it various ways. **Q: does this device help with carpal tunnel?** A: I used it to rehab my hand after having carpal tunnel release.
