But If it's very dark red or even worse black then flush the transmission it's money well spent to save your transmission. Keep in mind it will look like red metallic paint that's just part of normal wear. If it's bright red then just drain some transmission fluid to keep it at the proper level. Keep the old fluid just in case if you do a drain & fill on a trans that hasn't been serviced for 10+ years or over 30k-50k miles.
