can this be used around the eyes? for the gunk that comes from the eye corners?

I have used this many times, I have a pug who has developed allergies as she ages, especially when she goes outside. I use it AROUND her face, but certainly not near her eyes or in them. I was concerned at one point about it stinging open wounds, but come to find out its VERY relieving for my pug whenever she is super itchy, she calms down her itching and can rest, and I can see the relief on her face after using it on a fresh wound and it doesnt hurt or else she would YELP. These have helped us SO much!

Do the pads have a strong or unpleasant odor?

No. It's not overwhelming or unpleasant. It actually smells very good. Doesn't smell mediciney at all 
