Great for kids or bored adults
I had to read this book to write a biography on Einstein for my Literature in Childhood Education class. It was cheap enough to just buy it on Kindle instead of hunting down in the library. I didn't think much of the class itself, but this book surprised me. I learned facts about Einstein that were designed to appeal for children, but why wouldn't adults like to know silly facts like Einstein hated socks? I learned a lot of quirky things about the man and I got a perfect score on my assignment. I'm very happy. The illustrations are consistent with a children's book and parallel the story very well, it would be easy for children learning to read to follow along with this book. Buy it for yourself or your kid! It's good!

Good for Kinder through third grades.
Albert Einstein's life was greatly interesting. This story does a fair job of leaving us wanting to know more. I wish author Jennifer Berne would decide who her audience is to be, preschool, or elementary; the words and sentences are all over the place in their age appropriateness. However, the story remains absorbing and kept my attention throughout. Vladimir Radunsky is a favorite illustrator. He does this book justice.

'On a Beam of Light'
This delightful children's book introduces children to the simplicity of Albert Einstein's life as a child. His questioning led to deep questions that he continued to remember and work on throughout his life. The illustrations show the texture of the watercolour paper with appealing, descriptive drawings. This book is not only informative, but a story that will inspire young children to realise the importance of continuing to question themselves. 'On a Beam of Light' shows how music made Albert happy and encourages children, when they grow up, not to lose the ability to enjoy life.

This is a wonderful story that presents Albert Einstein in a fascinating and whimsical way. The author has made Einstein relatable, and has done a terrific job emphasizing the importance of creativity to her young audience. The text is incredibly enaging and presents Alberts theories in a way that is exciting for young readers. My six year old and I had a fairly decent conversation about Atoms ands molecules after reading. Also now he refuses to wear socks, so thanks a lot, Albert :P

Great book to open up the world of both science and imagination
Lovely story and illustrations. I understand why it was nominated for a Newberry Award. Can't wait to give it to my grandson for his birthday. I made him an Explorer kit, including a compass and a magnifying glass to go with it. The fact that it is the story of a real boy means that my grandson will have an interest in Einstein firmly planted in his young mind and heart. I think it could lead to reading more about Einstein as he grows older. And it will be so much fun to help him explore the world around him like a little budding scientist/explorer.

A delightful book for children. Engaging, not too complicated and wonderful illustrations. I bought it for my grand daughter who is just 4. It was pitched at the right level and she will understand more of it as she grows older.

This was an absolutely lovely story for young kids. Somewhat romanticised account of a great scientist and his search for answers. But very inspiring for little kids. Highly recommended.
