Very pleased with this item. For years I've cursed that foam packaging that so much stuff is packed in nowadays. It's hard to dispose of. To get it in the bin it's difficult to cut even with a sharp knife, and sawing it leaves a million little white bobbles that get everywhere. We've recently started getting our meat and fish from an online supplier. Lovely quality, but packed in large foam boxes and the prospect of dealing with them on a regular basis almost made me give up using the company. So I bought this, and what a pleasure it is to use. It comes with three fittings. Two wands of different lengths, and the bow shaped wire cutter which is what I use for the boxes. Slices through the 40 mm foam effortlessly, allowing me to cut the foam into small sizes suitable for a bin bag without a hint of mess. Brilliant! Mains supply, so no worrying about the battery running low, and comes with a spare wire. don't know how long it will last, but so far I love it. EDIT. 17th Dec 2025. I mentioned in my original review that I didn't know how long it would last. Turns out - about 5 years. It's just gone BANG. Literally. Big flash. Loud bang. Something internal in the plug has shorted and even split the plug! So. Don't know quite how to react. I must say, though, that it's been fantastically useful, during quite a hard life. It didn't do any harm when it went, and I'm going to get another. Wouldn't be without it now. I'm not even going to change my rating. Still a 5 star item for me. I just thought I'd mention this development.

Impressed. Purchased to cut some poly foam for creating scenery on a model railway. It basically works. Cuts straight through with little smoke or smell and makes a clean cut sealing the edges of the beads as it goes. Takes no effort and doesn't need to be pushed or pulled - just guided. Supplied with a spare length of wire if needed for the future. The plastic used for the handle and power brick is cheap and horrible, probably won't survive being dropped onto a hard surface. One serious negative point: There's a huge choice of similar products. I chose this one partly becasue it was listed as "buy in next 20 minutes for delivery by 10pm today". Once they'd taken my money and confirmed the order, surprise surprise, the confirmation says delivery by 10pm TOMORROW. It didn't make a huge difference, but it is not honest and is becoming prevelant on Amazon where items are similalrly listed and never delivered as the listing states.

I was slightly aprehensive due to the cost but i was pleasantly suprised as it does the job really really well, the wire doesn't bend eg tension is great, the three attachments work really well. You just have to turn it off and leave it a minute before changing them over. You get a spare wire in the box, just make sure you store that safe. Only issue is the build quality of the plastic handle is a little flimsy plastic, but I totally expected that due to the price it doesnt effect the use of it but if ur heavy handed just take care. Im solidly made up with it, great little starter cutter!

Insufficient depth

Brought this to carve polystyrene for our Christmas Village. I love using it - easy to carve with. I've not used the engraving and wand much but I'm sure they'll be just as useful.

Heats up super fast and gets really hot. Easy to use. Performs really well and doesn't break the bank. Very good quality.

Frequently, purchased items arrive with rather large blocks of styrofoam - a nuisance to break up, makes a mess, and cannot be recycled!!!! Smaller blocks - about grapefruit size, can be easily put in a bag for disposal, or used as a packing, or even put in the bottom of gardens to assist in drainage. The cutter is surprisingly fast, heats up VERY fast (seconds) and doesn't have much smell, although they do recommend you use it out doors....
