Plugged In, Workes Perfectly
Excellent refurbished drive. Plugged it into my NAS and it worked perfectly. Resilvered the pool and it has been working every since. Great price, fast boot, easy install, runs quietly, and so far - no lost data or uptime. Hopefully it stays reliable and durable for years to come.

Economical hard drive
Works and looks fine. Some say this drive is noisy, I don't find it any noisier than any other mechanical hard drive. I'm using this as a Time Machine back up drive in an old enclosure so it only shows that it is a 2.2 GB hard drive. The included instruction sheet provided that reminder.

Great value
Bought 5 of these end of 2021, had them in my Synology NAS. One of them had SMART critical warning on Sep 2022, still working by the time I see the warning. Emailed and processed a quick warranty replacement, down side is you have to pay for send it back, but turnaround time was less than a week, very quick, great service. For QNAP owners, when I had them tested in QNAP, it was unacceptable loud even when idle. Then I found out if you mount these drives with screws instead of using just quick snap mounts, they make much less noise because less vibration between drives and trays. For Synology there is no way to mount with screws(at lease my DS1621+), but somehow Synology managed to have less vibration using just quick snap mounts, no problem so far, other than full load, 5 drives are very quiet.

You get what you pay for... Never again.
"White Label" says it all: a "white label" and "as-is" disclaimer is a license-to-steal. "Probably" pulled from a server farm with "Relocated_Sector_Count" and "Power_On_Hours" reset to zero to hide age. Mine failed, after MUCH effort to reconfigure it as a longer-lived replacement for a smaller drive, after 10 months. After failing to boot, booting from a liveUSB, simply "looking" for the drive with lsblk proved it was "hopping around": first /dev/sdc, then sdd, then sde, the f, then g... AI says it's the controller electronics failing after a prior long life on the server farm.

Initial impressions-Time will tell
I ordered one at first as I was very skeptical, 4TB for under 70 bucks? I received the drive quickly (same day) it was packaged as well as any other drive that I have received, in fact, it was packed in a Western Digital hard drive box that appeared to be turned the wrong side out, never the less it was packed very well inside hard drive caddies and inside an antistatic bag. Slipped the drive into my HD doc it was immediately recognized and was ready for formatting, incidentally, it showed up as a Hitachi brand drive and the full 4TB is available. since it is a Hitachi I figured I would order another, therefore I have 2 of these in my Media storage docks, which is currently at about 26TB give or take a couple of GB. These drives are 7200 RPM, my concern is that will "spin" themselves into an earlier grave than my WD Green and Red drives that I have (5400 RPM), it may be me, but they seem to run a smidge warmer than the others, they are quiet, and seem to be very stable, no vibration or anything (I tested reading and writing several GB on each) For the price, even if they fail in a year it was worth the gamble, (for me, the Data can be replaced, I don't run backups or any kind of redundancy) and at 69.95 for 4 TB its a smoking deal!

2 years in & The Honest Truth
3 Year Update - 32644 hours on these drives & smart data says drives are still in good health! I've purchased 8 of these drives at various times and at various prices in last 3 years and have yet to see a failure (surprisingly). 4 of them are in my NAS system running 24/7. The other 4 I keep on hand for spares or migrations/expansions. To be honest, I was expecting more problems when I purchased them or for them to be discontinued (hence the extra's) but ya, they're great... and still sold 3 years later... so the honest truth is these are awesome drives at rock bottom prices and I fully plan on purchasing more. This is the best kept secret. I didn't want to leave this review because I wanted to keep it that way but its the right thing to do so you're welcome. More details: - As far as I can tell, they are new drives, not renewed. They all came packaged well and unopened. - They get the expected 170 MBps seq read/write for a 7200 RPM drive. - They do get toasty if left unchecked, however I run them in a well ventilated enclosure in a cold basement so I don't have any thermal issues. - Despite having a White-Label, doing a deeper dive shows that all the drives I got are actually HGST. Some of them literally have HGST model number in the stats (see bottom one in the screenshot), but the firmware running on the others leads me to believe that they are also HGST/Western Digital. Because these are White-Label tho, nothing is certain. - A few of the drives are only rated at SATA II despite saying SATA III on the page. Really tho - that doesnt matter. A hard disk can never SATA III speeds anyways. Just an oddity I noticed.

So far so good
I bought this to replace a failing 2TB external drive I use exclusively for local backups, and to test to see if these are good candidates for replacing my IronWolf's in my RAID5 array on my SOHO server (when they fail). It's been about 2 weeks, and it's working fine so far. I did a full dd wipe before mounting, and no errors or bad sectors. However, I found it odd that in smartmontools, the drive doesn't report '187 - Reported Uncorrectable' or '188 - Command Timeout' stats, which are 2 of the 5 attributes I monitor (per Backblaze) to indicate pending failure. At half the price, I could replace these twice as often as the IronWolf's and still come out even. But without the stats, I feel like I'm half in-the-dark about drive health. So... still undecided.

5th of 5 failed.
I bought 5 of these in 2022. 4 are running in an array on one NAS. the 5th on a separate machine has failed. There was a defective controller chip on the controller board (bottom of the drive) that overheated badly enough for a total failure before I could get all of the data off. I noticed a 1 year warranty on the unit. That was a pleasant surprise as I figured a 90 day warranty. I never like failures, and I lost some data. If anything is going to fail on a piece of hardware like this, it is most likely to happen in the first 90 days. MDTech was very responsive on replacing this drive under warranty including sending a pre-paid shipping label for the return. Kudos to MD-Tech on their customer service and replacing this drive promptly. All is well. I'm happy with MD-Tech as a vendor.
