Red Minimizes Algae and Attracts Hummingbirds
For years, I had been using clear plastic ant moats to protect my hummingbird feeders, but they became unsightly over the course of the summer as algae grew inside, often in the matter of days. Even though I'd clean them every week, they gradually stopped looking nice. This red ant moat solves both problems: long-term appearance and rapid algae growth since the sun can't get into the sides. (Yes, it will probably still grow algae, but mine hasn't yet.) This size is perfect, too. Smaller sizes tend to evaporate quickly, thus potentially letting in ants before you realize it, and larger sizes drop the feeder lower. Each moat comes with one S hook taped to the inside, but you'll need another to complete the connection with either the feeder itself or the shepherd hook you use. (Hummingbird feeders often come with their own hook.)I'm glad I found this. The red color keeps algae (mostly) at bay, and it serves as an additional enticement to hummingbirds, especially if you're placing your first feeder in their territory.-- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Love that this is CLEAR so that I can see when the water level is low.
I love this Songbird Essentials Clear Nectar Bird Feeder Protector. It works perfectly as an "Ant Moat" to keep the ants from getting into my hummingbird feeder solution. Plus, this little device also attracts the smaller birds, like the yellow finches, and invites them to have a quick drink.I previously had one of these in red, hooked above my hummingbird feeder. But it fell and broke. So I found this gem to replace the broken one. I actually like this one SO MUCH better!Because it is clear I can see from anywhere when the water level is getting low or dirty. This is a keeper and I will purchase it again if it ever breaks.

A very good ant moat
Aok shopping experience. Highly priced, but there aren't many orange colored moats on the market from which to choose. This ant moat is just like the picture shows. It is orange and looks good with orange feeders for orioles instead of humming bird red. Also this ant moat is large, so it doesn't require frequent filling. It's made of pliable plastic, so it's not likely to break when dropped, as some other moats do. Just wish it were see through too.

Work great!
I was so upset to find ants crawling all over my hymmingbird feeder. A search revealed the Nectar Protector. They seem good quality and are easy to use. Just hang by the hook above your feeder and fill with water. Antsceither drown or turn around. Now my nectar is suitable for the hummingbirds!

Great ant well. Needs additional larger hooks to hang over feeder.
Great size, easy to clean, love that it’s clear so I know when it needs to be filled. Only thing I would recommend is to design it so a larger hook can be used on the bottom. The hook on the underside can’t accommodate most feeder hooks so I had to modify it with additional hooks.

Effectively blocks our giant ants!
The media could not be loaded. I live in southern Arizona, where we have tons of hummingbirds and, each fall, migrating bats stop by to drink from the hummingbird feeder, completely draining it each night. It is fun to watch, and I like using a trail camera to take photos and video of the bats. This year some large ants discovered the feeder, and every morning I would find 40 or 50 of them in the empty feeder when I went to clean and fill it. They weren't aggressive, and the bats and hummingbirds only seemed mildly bothered... but I didn't like opening the feeder to see them swarming around my feet.I tried a small (3 oz.) hummingbird moat, and while it slowed the ants down, it did not stop them, and I still found at least five ants in the feeder each morning. This bigger (9 oz.) model is much more effective, and I have never found more than one ant in the feeder since starting to use it.The color photos show the feeder full of ants, without any external ant moat. The bat photo shows a bat drinking from the ant-free feeder with the ant moat above. The video shows the same, plus - bonus - bats drinking water from the reservoir. :)

Best one yet! Works great!
Like everyone...we had a terrible ant problem...I tried all the easy options, including a chalk line (which I've seen work before!) and these little buggers just kept coming! I finally researched more and found Ant Moats...and then read the reviews...the number one complaint was that they needed to be refilled often...then I found this one...PERFECT! It's hot as balls here and I fill it once a week when I change the hummingbird feeder and it barely goes down at all. Also, you can see the bugs that do try to cross floating...zero ants! Woohoo! Highly recommend!!!
