Need for Speed: Rivals

This is easily the most entertaining racing game I have played in a while. I played NFS: Hot Pursuit and loved it. I played NFS: The Run and hated it. This one is my favorite, I am also a fan of the Gran Turismo series but lately this game has been taking up all my gaming time. You can be always online and have other players in your game session to race with or race against. You can also utilize other players to take on Police who are trying to bust you. You unlock your cars as you go through the story, which you can then purchase with points you earn from accomplishing different events(Hot Pursuits, Races, Time Trials). The thing I like the most is the upgrade system. If your favorite car is lacking on certain stats you can spend time putting points towards that cars stats(Durability, strength, top speed, acceleration, etc...) Also you can purchase weapons for your cars to use during your open world journey. There is also a completely different experience when you play as the police, who also have their own set of cars to unlock and upgrade. You will spend plenty of time with this game if you have a taste for fast paced racing!!

Why did you pick this product vs others?: Good product

So my figuring is if you're looking at the game you already know you probably want it, so let me start with my gripes. They are very few, but they keep it from getting 5 stars. After you do the tutorial missions or whatever, it will throw you on to their online servers. This in and of itself isn't a con. I've actually found I don't really care one way or another about it, except you'll occasionally get dropped from the server and it will migrate you elsewhere, which takes 1 or 2 minutes. Sometimes it will resume right where you were but if you're in a race or something you can expect that you'll be in last place by the time it reloads, and sometimes you lose your current progess all together and you end up back at the command post or hideout. My other con is load times when you go back in to a command post or hideout. I think that fact that this is so noticeable is actually a credit to the game. You get so immersed in what you're doing that you don't want to wait to get back to it. Oh and some of the music is just god awful, but that's a matter of personal taste. Most if it's fine though. Aside from those things it's a great game. I've played both as a cop and a racer and they both bring a unique experience to the table though I personally prefer the racer. Getting busted has a lot more risk which makes it more exciting and I like the upgrade options only available to racer. This is the first Need for Speed game I've played so I can't compare it to others in the franchise, but it's gorgeous graphically and it's not skimpy with surround sound. You can hear cars zipping past around you. I'm glad I got it, in summary. I probably wouldn't have even bought it except the number of launch titles with the PS4 is pretty limited, particularly for someone like me who thinks sports games are stupid and has a take it or leave it attitude towards FPS's.

The best game out yet for the PS4 IMO. The cars looks AMAZING, and sound AMAZING. And the graphics look just like Battlefield 4's graphics because they are based on the same graphics engine, Frostbite 3 Engine. This is one of the prettiest games on the PS4, along with Killzone: Shadow Fall and Infamous: Second Son. This game also runs SUPER smooth even though it's only 30FPS. Trust me, with so many games like Infamous: Second Son that stutter and have horrible texture pop-in, games like NFS: Rivals being this smooth is a HUGE plus. You can spend literally around 20 hours just completing the game as a Cop and a Racer. I think it takes about 8-10 hours for each side. And you'll spend a lot more time than that just busting other players and racing them since the single and multiplayer exist all at the same time.

I received my PS4 one week ago and in my limited play time I have spent a majority of the time playing this game. For me what is really important when playing a game is not so much about visuals as it is about game play. The visuals in this game won't blow you away but they are nice to watch. As far as the game play is concerned it is really impressive. The action is nonstop and very fluid. This game is akin Burnout Paradise mixed with Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. They have really removed the complexity of some of the simulation racing games and kept this truly as an arcade style game. I know how limited the game selection is for fellow PS4 gamers. And I know how hard it is to keep entertained for the first few months with the limited offerings. Need for Speed Rivals has to be my favorite so far. If you are looking for a game that is simple and just fun to play this is it.
