Installed in a high reach cabinet with a lift-up lid and the support feature worked well and was easy to adjust. The instructions use metric measurements and rely on photographs that have not printed well, so buyers need to refer to the photos on this listing as well. Referring to my picture, converting the measurements to inches, the distance from the pivot point on the smaller anchor to the top of the lid is approx 7-inches (I used 6.75 inches which worked best for my situation). The other anchor point is close to 4-inches from the top of the cabinet. Take care when situating the anchors such that they do not interfere with the cabinet sides and top. I used 3/4-inch clearance for 1/2-inch wooden construction. Adjusting the friction at the hinge point enables the lid to stay horizontal until light pressure on the lid for it to softly close. I found that the last inch of closure happens much more slowly. If the friction adjustment is too low, the lid may stay horizontal for a few seconds before closing quite quickly, so take care in fine-tuning the friction. For the price, this is a good product. I have found gas strut versions to be slower closing than this yet have a more predictable operation but are not as adjustable as this one is.

Had to adjust the slow close feature with the Allen wrench after we got the hinges installed. Happy with the results.

The item is a good idea and works very well to hold a door "open". Closing is a bit of an issue and very dependent on the time of year. For example, in the winter the closer works stiffly. In the summer it is looser and slams shut. They also take up quite a bit of the interior space so that storage can't take place from "wall-to-wall" inside. Otherwise strong durable hardware

Mounting measurements with dimensions like 5.63. .63 won’t even convert into a fraction. Instruction for adjusting the closure were bad in when I tried adjusting the device came apart and could not be put back together. Nothing but junk.

I purchased these lid supports for a bench/storage box that I built. The 2-pack included necessary hardware, except each packet was short one screw (minus one star). Based on the "instructions", both brackets (upper and lower) are attached with 2 screws, but the lower bracket now requires 3 screws. The instructions, printed on a 4"x6" piece of paper are pitifully poor... to the point of being unhelpful (minus a second star). I was able to figure out installation, but I have lots of experience installing hardware. Once installed, these lid supports have a clean appearance and should last for years... they are cast metal. They are easily adjusted for tension and can be adjusted tighter for a soft close effect, but adjusting them that tight puts a tremendous strain on the mechanism, requiring a lot more effort to push the lid from vertical. My main use of these lid supports was to keep the lid open, which can be accomplished with a lot less force/tension. I would not call these lid supports primarily a soft-close devise, but they are great for holding the lid open. In action, there is a mild metal grating sound when opening the lid; closing the lid is silent (listen to the 12 second video). The piano hinge is completely silent... the noise is from these lid supports.

I read reviews prior to ordering that said the instructions were bad, but they are actually pretty much non existent. The directions consist of 7 tiny diagrams, on a 6” x 4.5” slip of paper illustrating the dimensions for each type of installation. There are no “step-by-step” instructions. There are no illustrations showing which directions the brackets face. The measurements are in inches that have been converted from metric units, so the measurements break down into 32nd and 64ths of an inch. It would have been easier if they had kept them in metric numbers. After careful measuring for the placement of the brackets, before drilling the holes, I discovered the placement of the screws was a greater distance than the span of the support arms! I ditched the instructions and determined the placement of them by using the product photos as a reference Once installed, I had to adjust the support to the tightest position. So now it is pretty hard to start the shut and then it still slams slightly once the lid is about 4” from being shut. This is not at all what I expected. If I had not already drilled the holes for the first bracket on my newly restored chest, I would have returned them. I do not recommend this product. In addition to the horrible instructions, the metal is flimsy and in-fact one of hinges was bent slightly and I easily bent it back. The lower bracket has three screw holes, but they only provide 2 screws. I had to add a third screw as the bracket moved slightly when shutting the lid. Over time this would have quickly loosened with only 2 screws. Spend a little more and get a higher quality product.

Rip-off!! Supposed to be a 2-pack and only one was in the packet! Absolutely useless without the other one!

We wanted it for a heavy toy box lid. It was useless, and so we returned it. Instructions provided were very poor.
