Q: What is the diameter of the hole I need to drill in the door to mount this?

the instructions indicate that you are to drill an inch and one quarter hole in the door.

Q: Does one need to install the outside key entry component, or can it be used as an inside only night latch?

Yes, instructions are provided for both configurations, inside security latch, or deadbolt style operation. I used both configurations. Deadbolt for front door, and security latch for inside door to garage. If using as high security use be sure to use long screws, ones included not long enough to reach internal wall studs for added strength. Door frame itself not strong enough for high security.

Q: Can this lock be used on either a left or a right hinged door?

Yes. I've mounted it both ways.
