It would be overkill for painting, but for something like protecting your truck bed when you haul dirt, which was my main use, it is great and holds up to shovels being dragged across it or pulling it up to move dirt closer to the tailgate. Be warned it is not clear (more like frosted glass) but would still be good for covering plants in winter freezes as the majority of light gets through and shrubs won't poke holes in it.I have a lot left after my dirt hauling (leveling the yard) exercise, but I bought a big roll like this about ten years ago that was finally used up a couple of years ago. Since that was used up I can't count the times I missed having it out in the shed, whether it was times I wanted to work on something on a desktop and needed some protection or I was changing oil in the lawn mower and wanted something to protect the patio from my clumsiness.
