I've read mixed reviews of this being bad/containing mites and being superb** A: I wouldn't call me an expert. I have 2 corn snakes and Repti Bark is the brand the place recommended to me. I've had my snakes going on 3 years and have had no problems with mites. Keep in mind, I have not tried any other product. Sorry I couldn't be more help. **Q: Why is this bark arriving wet, moldy, and mushy? Is this normal?** A: The bag is alway damp inside but I’ve never seen it get mushy or mold. Once the bag is opened the bark dries. Purchased many times! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great substrate for crested geckos! *by C***A on November 15, 2015* We use this as the top layer of substrate for our crested gecko's terrarium. I don't have any live plants in there and this sits on top of a mesh liner to separate it from the hydroballs on the very bottom of the tank. Overall, it is very easy to work with. I liked the price point and the fact that it can be reused; but for the price point, I won't feel bad if I need to buy more versus cleaning what I have. For our 12x12x18 tall terrarium, I used about half a bag. Like I said, I don't have any live plants, so I can't speak as to how well it hold moisture for such an application, but my gecko has never bothered it nor seemed interested in trying to eat it. It helps hold in moisture so it keeps her tank humid, even though we only spray it once in the morning and once before bed. It has a very pleasing color and it makes her terrarium look beautiful and natural.
