SilverStone SDP08 3.5" to 2.5" Bay Converter, Nickel-coated finish, SST-SDP08

Bought this for a small form factor lenovo pc (thinkcentre m72) that requires the drive to be screwed from its back onto the case. As a result, one cannot just place the small ssds with plastic or other supports onto slots that exist in larger cases. I bought this as it was reviewed to have screw holes at multiple locations including the back of the converter permitting attachment of the same into my case. The device is well made without any obvious sharp edges or corners. Comes with screws to attach the SSD to the converter and other screws to attach the converter to the computer case. I used it on a 7mm SSD. The only suggestion i would make to anyone planning to use this converter (and probably true for other converters) is to get a small screw set, preferably made for PC installation, with magnetic tip to hold the tiny Philips screws that attach the ssd to the converter. As you may see on the picture, the drive rests between the two prongs and are screwed in from the side. There is a very small gap between these prongs and the outer wall of the converter making it very difficult to get a finger in to position the screw in. So I stood up the converter and drive and through a slot on the outside of the converter pushed the screw in but given how small these screws are, the screw kept falling out as i tried positioning the screw driver. Finally had to use a pair of tweezers to hold the screw in place before screwing it. May be one day il get a real computer installation tool kit or a better all purpose one.

This is a great idea. I just finished installing mine. It's very easy to install. It came with all the necessary screws. I'm using it with an OCZ Agility 60gb SSD (which came with no screws or mounting hardware at all) and a WD 80gb hard drive. They both fit perfectly. There is 1/8 inch between the converter bracket and the lower drive, and about 1/4 inch between the lower drive and upper drive. I was worried about cooling, but the extra space allows these 2 drives to run cooler than my old single 3 1/2 inch drive. I only ran into 1 problem installing this. Don't tighten the lower drive all the way before installing the upper drive. It doesn't fit. Get all 8 drive mounting screws started first before tightening them completely and you won't have a problem. This bracket is made from good quality steel, not plastic or cheap aluminum. Great quality and easy to install. Fits 2 standard 2.5 inch drives no problem.

This bay worked fine for my purposes. I have a LIAN LI Lancool K62 case and this clicks right into the drive holder with no problems. It holds 2 SSD drives spaced far enough apart so as not to cause heat issues. I'm a big fan of nickel plating as a finish. This is well-made and was obviously manufactured to very tight tolerances. No bent metal or raised edges/burrs to scratch up my drives. The only criticisms I could possibly add are that it's not exactly something that will look pretty through a case window and it's sometimes difficult to get the screws lined up for the first turn of the screwdriver. Your fingers probably won't fit in the small gap between the tabs and the screwdriver clearance holes and it's probably not a great idea to use a screwdriver with a magnetized tip around a hard drive.

I use this to mount my Samsung SSD and a laptop spinning drive that houses my game library. When mounted in my tower, it fits, and works extremely well. It doesn't rattle, it isn't warped, all the holes line up perfectly. This is a very well made piece of equipment. \ There is a gap between drives to promote airflow. There is not however a gap underneath the bottom drive. Since the SSD won't get as hot, I have it mounted on the bottom. A) heat rises, so I don't want the (admittedly small) amount of heat to cook my SSD. B) The SSD is cooler than the spinning drive, so it doesn't need as much airflow. The SSD only has air running over the top. The spinning drive has air flowing over the top and bottom. The posts the drives screw into are spot on. If you are mounting two drives into it however, do not screw the bottom drive all the way in before you mount the first drive. It will make it that much harder to slot the top drive into place. Not an issue in my opinion, because to me, that's just common sense. The one and only issue is screwing the drives into the converter itself. Maybe I just don't have the tools to properly attack this project. The screws you put into the drive are tiny. I think everyone is aware of this. To mount this drive however, you have to first pass the screw through a hole in the outer wall of the adapter that will go into the post and finally into the drive. If you look at the picture Amazon provides, you'll be able to make this out. So you figure you'll just put the screw on the tip of the screwdriver and pass it through? Not that easy. Getting the screw to line up with the post is fairly difficult. Use a magnetic screwdriver? That's probably your best bet, however keep in mind this adapter is made out of metal as well. On your way into the hole, be sure you stay centered, otherwise your screwdriver will be attracted to the sides of the outer hole, and will be approaching the post at an angle. No bueno. The only real solution I can develop would be to provide a very weak glue that would allow you to keep the screw on the end of the screwdriver without the use of magnets. That was a lot of words for a problem that is (in my opinion) not that big. But this adapter is not perfect, and as such I cannot in good faith give it a perfect score. Would this issue prevent me from buying this adapter again? No. This is worth the money. I'd buy it again in a heart beat. My personal opinion? Make a version of this same adapter, but make it smaller length wise so that it doesn't protrude as much as a standard 3.5 inch drive. Having about half an inch of empty, bright, shiny metal poking out of where my hard drives mount is not aesthetically pleasing in my predominantly black case interior. My hard drives extend the same length, but they serve a functional purpose. This adapter's extra length does not. This however is opinion, and does not factor into my scoring of this drive. I may however take a can of spray paint to it and see if I can get it to better match.

Does what its supposed to do

Dies ist schon der zweite Rahmen dieses Typs, den ich bei Amazon gekauft habe. Mit dem ersten war ich bereits voll und ganz zufrieden, und obwohl zwischen den Käufen einige Jahre lagen, ist das Produkt beim zweiten Mal unverändert und in sichtlich gleich guter Qualität geliefert worden. Aber von Anfang an: Ich war, wie schon beim ersten Mal, auf der Suche nach der Einbaumöglichkeit einer 2,5-Zoll-SSD (diesmal eine Samsung 840 Pro Series mit 512GB, 512MB Cache, SATA III) als Ersatz für eine abgerauchte konventionelle 3,5-Zoll-(Daten-)Festplatte. Der betroffene Rechner ist ein MEDION Akoya X7714 D (Towergehäuse), in dem ich schon vor ein paar Jahren die zu klein gewordene Systemfestplatte mit Windows 7, eine 70-GB-SSD, durch eine geklonte 256-GB-SSD ersetzt hatte, unter Verwendung des zuerst gekauften Rahmens. Aufgrund der zahlreichen Rezensionen, die vielen anderen (Marken-)Rahmen auf Amazon zuteil wurde (dem SilverStone SDP08 jedoch nicht), hatte ich lange gezögert, ob ich mir den SilverStone ein zweites Mal kaufen sollte. Letztlich kam es mir jedoch auf mechanische Stabilität an, und gerade die war bei vielen angebotenen Produkten in der Bewertung oft bemängelt worden, weshalb ich mich erneut für dieses Modell entschied. Der Grund, warum für mich die Stabilität des Rahmens so wichtig war, liegt in der Bauart der Festplattenhalterungen im MEDION-Rechner begründet: in ihm werden die Laufwerke mit der Halterung nicht einfach verschraubt, sondern mithilfe von Gummidämpfern, die man statt der Schrauben in die seitlichen Gewindebohrungen des 3,5-Zoll-Laufwerks einschraubt, zwischen zwei Metallwangen mit entsprechenden Vertiefungen "eingeklemmt". Das ganze soll wohl die Laufwerksgeräusche dämpfen oder die Laufwerke gegen Erschütterungen unempfindlicher machen. Nun sollte also ein SSD-Einbaurahmen mit gleicher Breite an die Stelle des 3,5-Zoll-Laufwerks treten. Ein Rahmen, der nur aus dünnem Blech oder gar Kunststoff bestünde, würde der Tortur beim Einklemmen in die Metallwangen sicher nicht standhalten (man muss den Rahmen verdreht zwischen die bereits locker geschraubten Wangen einführen und durch einseitiges Einsetzen und Drehen gegen einigen Widerstand in die Vertiefungen einrasten lassen). Dies hatte beim ersten Mal bereits sehr gut mit dem SilverStone-Rahmen geklappt, weil er die Bohrungen seitlich genau da aufweist, wo sie auch bei einer handelsüblichen 3,5-Zoll-Festplatte zu finden sind (überhaupt befinden sich viele seitliche und Oberflächen-Bohrungen im Einbaurahmen, genau an der Stelle, wo sie sich bei den meisten 3,5-Zoll-Laufwerken befinden). Die Lieferung kam termingerecht und wie zuvor auch in einer gepolsterten Tasche; nichts verkratzt oder verbogen. Das Gehäuse war wie damals aus rostfreiem Stahl und wurde mit einem kompletten Satz dazugehöriger Schrauben geliefert: vier Schrauben mit etwas größeren Köpfen zum Befestigen des Rahmens in einer 5,25-Zoll-Laufwerkshalterung bzw. Laufwerksschacht, acht etwas kleinere Schrauben (aber gleiches Gewinde) zur Befestigung der maximal zwei 2,5-Zoll-SSD-Laufwerke mit je vier Schrauben an der Innenhalterung des Einbaurahmens. Das Wort "Blech" wäre wirklich nicht zutreffend, um den Rahmen zu beschreiben: die Wandstärke des Blechs ist solide, die Ecken sind abgerundet, die Kanten gratfrei, die Gewindebohrungen sauber und passend. Alles in allem eine sehr vertrauenserweckende, stabile Anmutung. Die SSD wird auf vier kleinen "Stelzen" als Innenhalterung mit dem Einbaurahmen verschraubt; die vier Bohrungen sind für den Schraubenzieher aufgrund von entsprechend im Außenrahmen angebrauchten größeren Löchern gut erreichbar (s. Bild). Aufgrund des recht steifen S-ATA-Kabels im Rechner und der sporadisch darauf sitzenden Stecker sowie der dazugehörigen Stromversorgung kann man sich die Einbauposition einer Platte im MEDION-Rechner nicht frei aussuchen; ich war bestrebt, sie in etwas dort wieder einzubauen, wo sich die alte Platte (eigentlich die Hälfte eines 2-TB-RAID-0-Verbundes) befunden hatte. Nach anfänglichem Probieren (damit verbunden mehrmaliges Ein- und Ausbauen) machte sich der offene Aufbau des Einbaurahmens bezahlt: wenn ich die SSD so mit dem Rahmen verschraubt hätte, wie es "richtig gehört", würden die S-ATA-Stecker nicht mehr gut draufpassen, bzw. das Gehäuse hätte sich nicht mehr schließen lassen, weil die SSD zu weit herausragt. Durch Umdrehen der Längsorientierung des Rahmens im Gehäuse und entsprechend "umgekehrte" Verschraubung habe ich die SSD etwas "versenkt" eingebaut und so das Problem gelöst. Jede der zwei im Rahmen parallel übereinander montierbaren SSD kann auf vier verschiedene Weisen an der Innenhalterung verschraubt werden (mit der Anschlussseite nach vorne oder hinten, mit der Oberseite nach oben oder nach unten), sodass jeder die für ihn geeignete Einbaulage finden dürfte. Ich hatte wie gesagt aus Gründen der Kabelgeometrie keine Möglichkeit, zwei SSD parallel in einen Rahmen zu montieren, weswegen ich auch zwei Einbaurahmen statt eines gekauft habe. Fazit: Ich bin rundum von der Qualität des bzw. der SilverStone-Einbaurahmen zufrieden und bin mir sicher, dass sie auch in einer konventionellen 3,5-Zoll-Festplattenhalterung (mit Schrauben statt der MEDION-Gummipuffer) eine gute Figur machen würden. (Im Bild ist der erste, ältere Einbaurahmen mit verschraubter 256-GB-SSD zu sehen.)

J'ai acheté au moins cher ( no name ) pour mettre mon nouveau SSD 850 EVO dans ma Tour Antec P180. Surprise la platine est trop petite et les trous de fixations trop petits. J'ai donc choisi cet adaptateur Silverstone en remplacement, plus cher en apparence, car en moyenne 1 platine est à 5/6 €, sauf qu'ici le Silverstone peux loger 2 SSD. Et c'est parfait ! la longueur convient parfaitement au logement des HDD du P180. Les longues Vis antec avec l anti vibration en caoutchouc conviennent parfaitement. Vu qu'on met 2 ssd sur cette platine, j'ai donc récupéré 1 place pour un futur HDD ou encore 2 ssd ^^

Rack de très grande qualité, montage aisé, se munir toutefois d'un tournevis aimanté pour installer les petites vis de fixation des disques durs. Ce matériel aurait pu néanmoins être amélioré en augmentant légèrement l'espace entre les deux positionnements de disques, ce qui faciliterait la mise en place des câbles d'alimentations et prises Sata.
