Back in 1970 and following a period of illness and recuperation, singer-songwriting troubadour Cat Stevens re-emerged with a new record deal with Island Records and a spiritual and artistic rebirth. ‘Mona Bone Jakon’, his first album for Island, showcased a markedly different change in direction for Cat, unveiling with it a remarkable set of new compositions that included classics like ‘Trouble’, ‘Maybe You’re Right’ and the UK hit single ‘Lady D’Arbanville’. To commemorate the album’s 50th anniversary comes this definitive super deluxe box set of ‘Mona Bone Jakon’. Sounding as fresh as the day it was recorded, the original album is represented here by a brand new 2020 remaster of ‘Mona Bone Jakon’ by Geoff Pesche at Abbey Road, overseen by original producer Paul Samwell-Smith 2020 on CD, as well as a new 2020 Mix by David Hefti on both CD and LP. The set also includes an exclusive third CD of previously unreleased demos, and a fourth featuring 18 live performances from 1970/71. This box is rounded out with a live 12” etched vinyl E.P. of a rare audience recording of ‘Live At Plumpton Jazz & Blues Festival’ from August 1970, and with a BluRay disc featuring the original promo video of ‘Lady D’Arbanville’, plus eight live TV performances, and the HD audio of the new Mona Bone Jakon 2020 Mix. Also included is a 98-page beautifully illustrated hardcover book with extensive new sleevenotes. Stunning re-mix and amazing re-issue
Just got these and WOW! the re-mixes are amazing. The separation and clarity are stunning. You can now hear a lot of the subtle parts that were buried. The outtakes, demos & live material is equally great and the packaging and liner notes were very detailed. My only complaint (and it’s very small) is that I like to know the recording dates but perhaps that information was not available.I hope Yusuf will give other albums such as “Teaser And The Firecat”, “Catch Bull At Four” and “Buddha & The Chocolate Box” the same Royal treatment as his catalogue and musical legacy deserves it.

Great edition extras are good, but not great!
The demos and alternate mixes and takes are very good. The live stuff does not address MBJ so much as his other releases close this Tea and Teaser. I don’t like MBJ like I do the other two so I did not have high expectations.

Mixed feelings.
This is an amazing box set. Plenty of memorabilia, including an amateur recording of Cat in a festival. Top quality everything, but the Mona Bone Jakon's pressing. The music in the record sounds wonderful, top notch , but the pressing is noisy, some scratches not visible are present in the whole side A, and with less intensity in side B. I returned the first box set I received, and now I am listening to a new one. Same problem but less noticeable. If you can live with that you'll be happy.

This was shipped quickly. I was so excited. It was full of things I’ve never seen, and I’m a serious Cat Stevens fan. Sadly it was damaged. Return went well, but big confusion over replacement. I’m looking for another company that might have it

Come l'altro cofanetto di Cat Stevens che ho acquistato, si tratta di un ottimo prodotto. Forse il live su vinile lascia un po' a desiderare: documento storico, senz'altro, però finisce lì. Il resto è Top. Remix e remaster eccellenti. Bravi fonici ( e bravo chi li ha lasciati lavorare).
