When I was wood carving we used a buffing wheel to sharpen our gouges. When I shifted to smaller art and gourds I changed to this kit. One big advantage are the multiple guides. Add the compound, then sharpen getting the right angle for each gouge. Another advantage is the kit is small to carry with you. Fact is i’ll push the gouge edges trying to avoid sharpening on a machine. With the kit, it’s easy to take a break and sharpen edges.

Using this often to keep my tools sharp

If you want to sharpen curved or V-gouges,this is what you need. I can get a terrific edge in no time, no guesswork. Check the instructions about how the tool edge should fit over the strop - common sense but you don’t want to do it incorrectly. Makes my relatively inexpensive tools sing.
