I was using it for chocolate, which does not contain any water. I would recommend using a vanilla extract if you need to have a vanilla flavor that is water soluble. **Q: Is this soluble in isododecane?** A: I guess, yes )) it's soluble in egg yolks ( for eggnog ) **Q: how much of this do I put in an 8 ounce vessel of food grade PG to make a double srength vanilla?** A: Not very familiar with double strength vanilla, but apparently it is simply vanilla extract that has twice the vanilla bean matter as standard vanilla extract. Standard vanilla extract has 13.35 ounces of vanilla bean matter extracted per gallon, so double strength would have 26.7 ounces per gallon. Vanilla beans are on average at least 1% Vanillin. That would mean roughly a quarter ounce, or more precisely 7.5 grams of Vanillin is in a gallon of double strength vanilla extract. A gallon is 128 ounces, so you divide it by 16 to get 8 ounces. Therefore it would be roughly half a gram of Vanillin per 8 ounces or more precisely .47g. As 7.5 divided by 16 is .46875. Now if you were to add a half a gram of Vanillin to 8 ounces of Propylene Glycol would you get a near perfect substitute for a strong Vanilla extract? That I have no clue but my intuition thinks not.
