Dan's Genuine Arkansas Novaculite Soft (Medium) Pocket Knife Sharpening Stone Whetstone 3" x 1" x 1/4" in Leather Pouch MAP-13A-L

I received it the next day. It came bubble wrapped in a bubble package. Got it out read the included directions and got my oil out and applied it to the stone and I got started and got my Old Timer Shader Walden NY USA 340T razor sharp after just a few passes on each side. Excellent and well worth the cost of owning my DAN'S WHETSTONE, INC. SOFT STONE IN THE REAL LEATHER POUCH with directions from ARKANSAS. If you want a great edge on your pocket knife with a great stone that should last a life time I recommend investing in one of Dan's products to fit your needs. Show some love with a heart. It’s fantastic quality! My 8yr old watched the video from the seller and was making quick work of sharpening his pocket knife.

Had never used a whetstone before and mostly bought it for decoration on another project. When it came time to use it, I followed the included instructions, and it was SUPER easy, not to mention, it was RAZOR sharp. I typically test the sharpness by running my finger very lightly and slowly across the front of the blade edge (which is very very stupid, never do that) but when I did it with this I instantly withdrew my hang and thought “yeah, if I do that this is gonna be a cut for sure”. This thing really does the job and I guess I should really expect to take this seriously and not mess around with it, but it’s crazy. Didn’t know what a sharp knife was until I used this. (They recommend you use knife sharpening lubricant, but I just used water and it worked out great, but I’m sure with the proper materials, it’s an unbelievable edge. The sheath it comes with is a light cream color unlike the pictures here, but I used brown leather dye I already had to color it, which you can do yourself as well. but it wasn’t really necessary. If you have leather dye already, it’s a nice touch, but I wouldn’t spend $10 on leather dye for one tiny little pouch.)

I have seen other reviews on this product. I guess it used to be larger with a better quality sheath. It’s a really compact/small stone and is pretty much perfectly rectangular. Oil or water can be used for it. I choose water because it’s more easily available and cleaner. The sheath does feel thin and somewhat cheap, but I care about function more than I do about looks. Honestly, I feel the stone should be $10 or less without shipping, but you have to remember this is a high quality stone and they cut it themselves. I gave it four stars only because of the small size. But it will sharpen your tools and is light and easy to pack. Another thing to note is that modern stones you usually buy at hardware stores remove a bit more steel when sharpening. This one removes less but still sharpens.

Good little stone. It's 3 stars because I feel it is extremely over priced. Not sure if it even in a real leather pouch. It's an extremely thin leather and cheap version if it is leather.

This product arrived the other day and I finally had a chance to use it. I was not disappointed. I've seen other reviews about it being too small, but it is exactly as described. It comes in a very nice leather pouch and is the perfect size to stick in your pocket, glove box, tool box or in a kitchen drawer. After putting a touch of honing oil on it, it's ready to go! puts a razor edge on whatever you need. I used it on 3 pocket knives and 4 knives from the kitchen, all turned out razor sharp, even the big kitchen knives!. it is a bit tough to sharpen the bigger knives because of its size but, if you take your time and keep the stone clean, it gets the job done!

Perfect pocket size. Works as described if you follow the included guidelines of using oil. (Water works just as well)

This is the second arkansas stone I baught this year, and the texture looks like it’s recycled dust epoxyed together, the material is arkansas stone but not the real deal. The picture is showing what you could get 2 years back for the same price, a 4" x 1 5/8" x 1/2" real stone. The add is accurate, I didn’t took care of the size because I taught it would be the same being a Dan’s, but just like the last I baught, a Smith’s, its composition look cheaper and it’s less than half the size, for the same price, i’m disappointed.
