No idea but it's designed to hang a back drop from. Not sure what else you would use it for.

Would this hold a star cloth backdrop

Absolutely. I used it for quite a heavy curtain, drape and floral set up. It does bow ever so slightly when fully extended though.

Not advisable. It can just about support cloth backdrop.
