Is there a way to buy just a replacement lid? My son bit into the silicone spout within just a couple of months.

You can contact contigo directly and they may replace it. I know they replaced our lids when they had recall.

Is this leakproof even when the spout is flipped open?

If the spout is open, it will dribble a little. Like a teaspoon amount if left open and on its side. If it's closed, I have no qualms about tossing it in a tote

Do you have to use the straw or can the bottle be used without it?

The straw is part of the lid. The only way you could use the cup without the straw is to drink from the cup itself without the lid.
