Bright, long lasting
I bought these light sticks to go in my bug out bag and vehicle. I bought ten red and ten white. I tried out one of the white ones last night. They're activated with the standard "snap and shake" like virtually all glow sticks. These take a little more muscle to break than a recreational glow stick. That's one thing I like, I feel confident carrying them in a bug out bag without fear of accidentally setting one off. The light produced by these allegedly white lights is actually extremely pale blue. The stick itself looks white, but the light it casts is obviously blue, similar to those blue halogen headlights or a poor quality LED flashlight. The light is fairly bright. In a dark room, I was able to easily read a typical paperback novel by its light. I recommend using the wrapper as a reflector to keep from exposing your eyes to the direct light. It makes the projected light appear brighter. These would make a sufficient emergency work light. If you had to read a map, cook a meal, or bandage a wound, these light sticks would be sufficient in a pinch. I would keep them around for power outages. The one I tested was still giving off a useful amount of light after 10 hours, so I'll accept as fact the 8 hour rating. Bottom line: These are the real deal. All preppers should have a box of these.

Reliable Light When You Need It Most
The Cyalume White Emergency Glow Sticks are an essential tool for emergencies, camping, or hiking trips. These 6-inch glow sticks are lightweight, easy to activate, and provide a steady white glow for up to 8 hours. I’ve used them during a power outage, and they worked perfectly—bright enough to light up a small room without being overly harsh on the eyes. What I like most is how simple they are to use. Just snap, shake, and you’ve got instant light. They’re waterproof and don’t rely on batteries, which makes them a dependable backup for outdoor adventures or emergency kits. The bulk pack of 10 is also great value since you can stash them in your car, home emergency kit, or hiking backpack. The light output isn’t as bright as a flashlight, but that’s expected since they’re designed for ambient or safety lighting, not spotlighting. Overall, the Cyalume White Emergency Glow Sticks are dependable, easy to use, and versatile. They’re a must-have for any emergency kit or outdoor gear collection. Simple, effective, and ready when you need them.

Good for Emergency Kit
- I bought these for my Storm Emergency Kit. I prefer the white for my kit. - the hook is nice so it can be hung on the wall, or hung on a line - These work nice when camping / backpacking because of the shelf life. - The light output is ok. Remember folks these are not intended to be super bright (like a flashlight). Search for another product if you need that type of light output. These are for a glow that is good enough to make you seen, bright enough to read a map, and long lasting enough to glow most of the night.

Love these
I bought these and I love them! I throw them in my suitcase or back pack, in case of emergency. I have used them in many, many places. We used these in Maine in the woods when it was too dark to see our way to the path. They were great! We have used them in our hotel rooms as a night light. We like to place a few on top of our tent so we can find it easily at night, or we use them to light the edges of paths on many camping adventures. We have them at home in case the electric goes out during a storm. We snap them and place them on stairs or anywhere its hard to see without lighting. These snap easily, and with just a quick shake, they light up brightly. They last all night. I really love the white snap lights better than the color lights. These are bright and easy to see in the dark. They store well and are super easy to use.

Were used in the military and they have only gotten better, brighter light and longer lasting
Have been using these light sticks for over 30 years. Were used in the military and they have only gotten better, brighter light and longer lasting. Great that they are individually wrapped, can be put in first aid kits and tactical pouches for that added light when needed. Great tool if light is needed in a flammable or combustible area. An excellent night stick.

emergency only
Ive had several types of glow sticks over the years. I bought these white ones thinking they might give off a bit more light than the other colors. I was right and wrong. They do give off a brighter glow but the light doesnt carry far, Its good because the colors you see when using this glowstick are natural. If you used a whole box of the white ones at once they brighten up a 10x10 room but thats using 10 glowsticks. I would recommend using these sticks for (emergencies only) and if you need to read a label or see what your doing right in front of you, Id say no further than 2-3 feet max unless your eyes are well adjusted to the dark. I "wouldnt recommend" going hiking in the woods and uses these to see where your stepping. I used a lumen measuring app on my smart phone to get an idea of how much light I was getting from these sticks. On cracking the light stick I got(1)lumen per square foot & (9)Lux lumens which is the lights max threshold. Thats OMG LOW. A candle is brighter. One hour later I tested the lumens again and they wouldnt even register in the lumens per square foot range and the Lux lumens was down to (4) which isnt even worth mentioning but I did just in case someone was wondering. So after about an hour it makes a great little reading light if your holding in directly on the page your reading and moving it line by line. All in all Not worth the $1.25 per stick. yet the packaging was great and the shipping was service was decent/reasonable for the holiday season. Id say if it was 50cents a stick It would be an amazing value. So with that said. These sticks are great for short term close range lighting or like some other peoples reviews have suggested using them as markers which I agree with. So dont buy these and thinking you're getting light sticks that will light up the night because thats not realistic. The facts are the facts. (1)hour of decent close range light and a 60% drop in lumen output after that hour. Then you'll see a slight decrease every hour after until the light become useless. The 8 hour duration given on the package is only using the lumen output as a template. its only 30mins to an hour of useful light. the other 7 hours are counted by the lumen output chart which means any amount of light coming for the stick is counted and ends at 8hours. (though not consistent). Id buy them again in a bind because they are always useful in some context.
