Treasury of Daily Prayer is a comprehensive Lutheran resource that brings together Scripture readings, prayers, psalms, hymns, and devotional readings from the church fathers to guide daily prayer and meditation on God's Word. Organized around the Christian Church Year, Treasury of Daily Prayer is designed to be an all-in-one tool for daily devotions for individuals, families, and small groups. This regular edition has a durable sewn binding, and features a 9.5-point font size, and six ribbon-markers. Review: Amazing Resource for Personal of Family Worship - This book is an absolute treasure trove of resources. Included are prayers, scripture readings, psalms, hymnodies, the daily office, small catechism, and more. It comes with a ribbon marker, that has several ribbons for bookmarking various sections of the book, which makes it easy to navigate. Even though this is the regular (basic) edition it is still a beautiful book and the cover has a satisfying texture. While CPH books tend to be on the more expensive side overall, you do get your value out of it. Review: An Excellent and Comprehensive Resource - I have been in love with prayer books, especially the classic 1662 Book of Common Prayer, for a number of years now. But I have always had two major complaints: First, I wanted a prayer book that also included daily Bible readings in the text, so that I would not have to go and look up passages in a separate Bible. The only prayer books of that sort that I was able to find were usually Catholic (so they included prayers to saints and other things I wasn't interested in), the Bible readings were short, and usually from the NRSV (not my favorite translation). Second, I wanted more prayers, perhaps even a different prayer for every day of the year (though I assumed that was too much to ask), rather than only a prayer for Sunday that is repeated through the week (as with the BCP), or a 1 to 4 week cycle of prayers that are repeated once every week or month. This book has it ALL. For every single day of the year there is a unique prayer, as well as readings from the OT, Psalms, and NT (in the ESV, a translation I like very much). And as if that were not enough, there is also a short meditation from a Father of the Church, AND a verse from some classic hymn. You can choose to skip one or more of these offerings for a shorter prayer time, or read through them all (it still only takes about 15 minutes, depending on how fast you want to read) for a full and satisfying experience. This compact edition is especially nice, with an attractive binding that looks and feels old (without the added price tag of genuine leather), and is the perfect size to carry with you and hold comfortably in one hand. Highly recommended for any Christian in the Protestant tradition (Lutheran/Anglican/Presbyterian) who is looking for a fuller (and more traditional) daily prayer experience.

Lutheran Book of Common Prayer!
I love this book. I used it when I got it initially on and off once a day for a few weeks, but since Lent started, I've been using it every day multiple times a day. It's laid out in such a nice way. You can do the once a day daily reading format which has part of a psalm, an OT reading, a NT reading, a writing, part of a hymn, a prayer, and a suggested Book of Concord reading. You could also follow the Matins, Vespers, etc. format. They also have a shortened individual prayer format with morning prayer, noon prayer, early evening, and close of the day prayer. I've been doing those with the daily reading and it has been very edifying to me. I was unfamiliar at first with prayer books like this, but it's very similar to the Book of Common Prayer or Liturgy of the Hours or something like that. I'm so glad we, as Lutherans, have our own format. Of course you can use other prayer books from different denominations, but this one has it all (from a Lutheran perspective). You can also use this even if you're not a Lutheran! However, it does focus a lot on Lutheran theology and understanding, even having the Small Catechism included as well as about half the writings being from Luther himself or his followers. Regardless, it truly is a treasure and is organized in such a great way. I recommend it highly.

Can't praise it enough, BUT buy the bigger copy to keep from fighting the small, tight binding.
Typical excellence from Concordia Publishing. Everything they do encourages and reflects the integrity of Missouri Synod Lutheranism in a consistent trustworthy manner. This is no motivational morning pep talk about giving your all to God and doing more for Him today or being your best self. No, it begins and has its focus as Lutheran things do, with the Holy Scriptures. Each day takes you first to God's word, not thoughts about yourself and how to do better in life. The focus is on the words that have already been written by our Father to guide us and frame our days. Then you have some commentary, a bit of a hymn and a prayer. Each section also guides to sources for more study and I love having the entire Psalms in the back. The only issue I have with it has nothing to do with the content but rather with the binding. This is a very thick little book, and as such I find myself fighting with the binding to get the book open enough. As I'm trying to meditate on the scriptures and message my mind is also on getting this thing to open far enough for me to comfortably see the words and it is terribly distracting. But I shows how much I just love this book that after spending $40 on this version I just ordered the bigger version because I want to much to have this devotional for many years to come. It is so exceptional that I see it in my hand every day for the rest of my life here. I'm sure I'll find someone to give this smaller copy to.

Great Overall, But Not As Useful On Kindle
The Treasury of Daily Prayer is something I and many of my fellow Lutherans (for whom it was primarily designed) use as a daily resource for our Christian devotion. It is a tribute to genuine, historical, Evangelical Catholic prayer and meditation from across the ages. It follows the church year and reminds us of all the sainted ones who came before us and how they have played such a role in the life and history of Christendom since the beginning of time. What I've found is that the Treasury of Daily Prayer is quite hard to use in digital format, as it was designed (necessarily) to be used like a hymnal, requiring the need to flip back and forth between various designated sections of the fixed prayer services and the daily-changing devotional material that fits into the chosen prayer service of the day. Consequently, for performing the actual devotion itself the Kindle format is quite impractical. However, the Kindle format does pose a series of advantages that you couldn't get in the hard copy. The digital format does allow the ability to digitally retain from year to year one's notes and highlights (which can be like a journal of sorts reminding us of how the passages impacted us in years past), as well as the ability to cut and paste sections of your daily devotion into for sharing and discussing with friends on your favorite social media or blogging platform (which aides in the building up of the Body of Christ as we are commended by Christ and the Apostles to do). If I could only buy one kind, I'd get the hard copy as the chief purpose of purchasing The Treasury really is to enhance one's devotional life. On the other hand, the Kindle format can play a major role in enhancing that from year to year and in the community of the church as the pastor and laity build each other up in their devotional life.

Great devotional resource for home and travel
I own the print edition of the Treasury and liked it so much I bought the Kindle edition so I could take it with me on the road. The Treasury is an excellent devotional resource because of the variety within the daily devotions and especially due to the fact that the devotions are so strongly rooted in the Scriptures. I only encountered two drawbacks. First: the navigation can be improved, but that said, it's not a big issue since, once you get to the day you're on, you advance through the book page by page. If you use the liturgies in the middle of the book, just bookmark them so you can quickly jump between them and the day you're on (after you bookmark the day you're on). Second: not all of the hymn texts that are in the print edition are in the Kindle edition. This is probably due to copyright restrictions, but, since this makes the Kindle edition to be different from the print edition, the lack of mentioning this difference in the book description resulted in my being unpleasantly surprised. If portability is important to you (at home or on the road), even with the omission of some of the hymn texts, I heartily recommend the Kindle edition of the Treasury.

Could use a ribbon (or eight)
I have the larger edition and really love it. I picked this one up to have by my bedside and to take with me when I travel. I was a little disappointed that while it appears to have the same content, there is no ribbon that comes with it, unlike the larger version. The larger version has something like 8 different ribbons that you can use to mark your place in the text. This has nothing of the sort. Ribbons are important because there are several sections that you need to flip back and forth from to hold your place not only between sessions, but also during a devotion. For example, on my larger one I have the daily readings marked, the order of service (Matins, Vespers, Compline, etc.) marked, the section on the Psalms marked, the Daily Prayers at the end marked, etc. That's a lot of flipping and holding your finger in place. I have tried to use bookmarks, but they are unattractive, bulky, and mess up the flipping of pages because they are so thick compared to a ribbon. I purchased a multi-ribbon that I could place in the spine, but I am hesitant because it is made for a large scale book, not a compact book, and will need clipped and will no doubt frazzle at the ends. I am also afraid that since it is so thick it will crack the binding. So, good book, but CPH needs to include a ribbon system solution like they have for the larger version. Excellent content, but dinged one star for no ribbon.

A wonderful daily devotional full of God's abiding word
I have this in kindle format, the PrayNow app, and an analog version. (my Mom uses the book and loves it, too.) I highly recommend any of the above for folks looking to add that something more to their daily prayers or family devotions. Each day has a reading from the Psalms, the Old Testament, and either a Gospel reading or a New Testament reading. There's a section of writing from one of the Church Fathers, a stanza of a hymn, a prayer, and a suggestion for reading the Book of Concord. Also included are daily devotional services (frex the settings for morning and evening prayers, compline, matins, vesper, etc) the proper for the day, and so much more. It's truly one of my favorite devotional books and it can be used day after day for years to come.

Awesome Book!
Super excellent book. Get it! Read it every day. I appreciate all the extra readings beyond the extensive daily Bible readings printed out for every day of the year. Also there is a reading program for the Book of Concord, etc. I was so thrilled to also see the readings from writers from church history of many centuries.

A gift for the prayerful.
As a Christian, I have used many aids for prayer and Scripture reading. This one is richer than others Iโve worked with. The daily readings of Scripture and from writers of the Church throughout history lead you through the whole counsel of God throughout the course of the year with connections to the seasons of the Church Year. Access to some of the historic daily liturgies (Matins, Vespers etc) connects the devotions of individuals with the practice of the whole church of all ages. This is a true gift to all who wish to draw near to God each day through His Word and prayer.
