Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger 12/12V 30A 360W Isolated

Installed this as part of my travel trailer electrical upgrade and it has performed exactly as expected. The Bluetooth setup through the Victron app was straightforward, and being able to monitor and adjust settings from my phone is a huge plus. The unit feels well built, runs efficiently, and has been a great addition to my Victron system. If you’re upgrading an RV or overlanding setup, this is a quality piece of equipment.

Update: I changed my stars I LOVE VICTRON DEVICES. I know own the battery shunt, Solar controller and DC to DC charger. Love them. RESETTING LOST PIN: If you need to reset your Victron devices, lost your pin, or whatever. Take a picture of the labels around the device before you install them and store it somewhere on a computer or phone for reference. There PIN and PUG is on the stickers. The PUG is use for resetting the PIN, its a security feature to allow only persons in physical proximity of the Victron device to reset the PIN, blocking everyone else. ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Will change my rating once I get a pin that works. Everything went well, but I am unable to enter the 000000 pin number it is asking for on initial setup. I got my phone as close as 6 inches to make sure bluetooth connects and when it ask for the pin, the same message pops back up again asking for the pin - endless loop.. Cannot get it to join the other two Victon products I own and have on my iPhone.

I replaced 2 lead acid batteries on our boat with a single LiFePo battery and used this Victron unit to connect both the inboard motor and 9.9hp kicker motor alternators to charge the new single battery. I got a little bit of help from Grok on how to wire it all, but the system works great. The bluetooth app makes it easy to change settings and keep track of the battery charging.

Easy to install in your rv storage area . I got tire kingdom to run my 2 pole # 8 guage cable to the back of my truck, then I took it from there. Be sure and install a 40 cap in line circuit breaker. At the the truck battery. Get the 2 way trailer connection plug and receptacle…Don’t waste your money on Anderson connectors etc, they are insufficient..You can make a solder connection withe the female trailer side plug. Use minimum 8 guage wire.stuff the fitting with extra wire strands to fill it up. Propane torch, flux, and solder git er done….

These chargers overheat and derate to 50% of their capacity very easily. I am going to end up scrapping $500 worth of chargers purchased 3 months ago for this reason. Very frustrating. Buy the upgraded 50A Victron XS instead. They apparently run much cooler.

I purchased a Victron Isolated DC/DC converter on July 8, 2022. I am outside of the 30 day return window and I just installed and there is no bluetooth. I have tried multiple power inputs, read manuals, searched the internet and watched many Youtube install videos. I have even removed it from the camper and moved it as far away from other bluetooth items in case of interference. Now the power light will not even come on. Amazon removed the ability to ask questions so i wrote a review. Right now I have a $270 brick. UPDATE. The seller was prompt and refunded the full amount. Bad products are not their fault.

So as the title says, the biggest complaint is the temperature this gets. When running at full power, this thing will easily cause you severe burns. Im sure its capable of melting plastic, which I happen to have it mounted to a a plastic siding and smelled it gassing. I have found there are a couple ways to maybe control this. If you turn off the smart alternator setting and turn off the engine shutoff and turn off the hard cutoff for this, it will pull its maximum power from the alternator, which in my case was right at 410 watts. Also around 33.5 amps. Which is more than rated which is nice. However the downside, i have 2 #10 wires running to this, about 10 feet each way and it drops my voltage from 14v to 12.8 volts. Seems to be a little inefficient given the math for voltage drop, the step up converter is probably what is making all the heat at this point. If I re-enable the low voltage cutoff, and reenable the smart alternator setting, it will only pull closer to 300 watts, about 23 amps dropping the voltage to about 13.1v. Which is still more voltage drop than there should be given my pure copper dual #10 wiring. I tested this using only 1 set of #10 wires, and with the smart alternator enabled, i could only get 10-12 amps, no more than 168 watts. Im assuming that in smart alternator mode, it varies the current based on the voltage at the unit, which means that there is some incredible voltage drop at the unit. There is something definitely inefficient in the unit, and at this price point I figured I was getting something top of the line. This has to be why the unit creates so much heat. There should be an active cooler on this. Buyers should be aware of this fact. Otherwise, the item works great.

This device has been working great as my B2B charger in my van conversion. The Bluetooth communication works well and the device has been working reliably for the past 6 month. I find all of my Victron products to be bulletproof. Would recommend!
