Its a pretty hard case, I wouldn't stack too much stuff on top of it, but it would definitely fit on a bookshelf very easily without collapsing in on itself damaging the knives on themselves. I just wish they had velcro instead of that cheesy elastic that is definitely not going to last very long, that would be the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five. You can mount many knives in various configurations.
