Does the job well
I bought this as a stop-gap fix for a failed A/C unit in my office building. I'm using it to cool our 600 SF payroll office (payroll is near and dear to me) until I get the RTU fixed. The office is interior- no windows- so I'm venting the exhaust up into the plenum space above the ceiling. You MUST vent this unit outside the cooled space; obviously, this unit trades hot air for cool air so the hot air has to go somewhere. I'm happy with the quality and performance of this unit and I would consider buying another one.

Poor performance and unreliable.
The unit occasionally operates appropriately i.e. emits cold air with a high flow rate but more often than not the airflow volume is meager at best (even on high fan setting) and the unit does not keep a 450 square foot room cool. The low airflow typically manifests after the unit has been running about an hour and then a rattling starts to occur, followed by a extreme reduction in airflow and degraded cooling. The fans both spin normally during this odd low airflow issue but barely any airflow is noticeable from the vent; cold air can be felt if you put your hand very close to the vent but airflow can only be felt a few inches up from the vent so the unit does not keep the room cool since the cold air is not being pushed into the room very effectively. I would not recommend this air conditioner. I have recently purchased a replacement (different brand with same BTU) and my new air conditioner outperforms this unit by far. Unfortunately, I wasted money on this unit.

Great value.
Works as advertised had for 2 summers cools an average living room. Only downside is no heater but they make models with one so just know what you're buying.

Haier HPC12XCR 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner
Haier HPC12XCR 12000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner Review We bought this to replace a 6k BTU windows unit. It was easy to set up and install. We have a master bedroom with a dressing room off the side and it keeps both cool. We leave it on high when we are out of the room and put it on low when we sleep. It is however a lot louder then a normal window unit which has most of the noise outside. We have another Haier and its not as loud as this one. The turning on of the compressor is mild compared to our old one though. Window install is quick and easy and unlike our other unit the hose seems to stay put in the window slide. It rolls nice and the cord is not to short. The remote is no back lite like our other so its useless in the dark until you know what buttons do what. I love that you don't have to drain it, this is a huge bonus. All in all still a good buy. Pro’s • Easy to install • No draining needed • Cools the room quick Con’s • Still noisy (this is something thats normal for portable units) • Remote is not back lite Conclusion Again, all in all this is a good unit. Its easy to install and cools the room good. Takes about 10 min for the compressor to come on when you start it up from being off for a while. I got no smell when it shuts off but we don't have a air tight house either. Its a good buy just remember that most potable ac units are noisy and you wont be able to shut off the fans without turning off the unit.

It’s okay
It’s a pain in the ass but works okay. You have to drain it every now and then or it’s gonna leak water everywhere. Maybe not in a dry environment but I’m in Buffalo, NY and the humidity is ridiculous some days. The bottom drain is a pain to access if you don’t have it off the floor. I don’t have anything to put it on so I just slightly hate life once a week when I drain this lol. The top one is easy to drain. It does a decent job cooling my bedroom. The average person would probably be thrilled with it but I enjoy sleeping in the Arctic at night (62-65 degrees F) so I think it’s just okay. It reads that it’s 61 degrees but it’s not 61 in the entire room, just wherever the thermometer is. Last year I used it on my first floor and it barely cooled anything. I think my first floor is like 800 sqft at most but it’s pretty open. I bought another 12k btu unit, however, that cools my first floor better than this unit does, for comparison. It’s pretty loud but I enjoy the white noise anyways so that’s not an issue for me. I’ve never even put batteries in the remote so I can’t tell you about that but remote controlled is nice to have. All in all I’m happy with this purchase. Definitely better than dying a slow, heated death during the summer!

Not a fan of this a/c.
Not a fan of this a/c. It was expensive and heavier / larger than I'd expected (and I'd read the measurements beforehand). The window kit is cheap, flexible, and worthless. The unit itself doesn't really cool anything down. I bought it for my bedroom which is one of three rooms in a unit that is about 550 square feet. The ratings said it would cool 440 square feet. It does not cool. While it is running, and when the door is closed, it makes the room less hot at the level that the air shoots out of the vent which, in my case is lucky since that is the level of my bed. If I stand up, the air is considerably warmer. If I turn the unit off the air heats up immediately, even if the temperature outside is only in the low to mid 80's. It is really loud and vibrates the floor (much to the chagrin of my neighbor below). And it makes my condo smell like mold when it's running. The smell eases up when the windows are open, but when the unit is running the air in my condo now smells like mold and mildew which is just slightly less tolerable than a highly humid, 95 degree day in Chicago. Others have stated that they have had success and the literature all says that this is one of the best units to buy, but I would not buy it again and I kind of regret having bought this one at all.

Seems like a quality unit thus far
Have only had this for a few weeks and used it on two nights. I have it in my master bedroom where it gets the hottest in the house. With the door shut, the temp drops instantly. It's a bit loud when the compressor runs but I wear earplugs to sleep with anyway so I don't notice anything. Seems like a quality unit thus far.
