the best music bargain.
I have owned thousands of dollars in stereo equipment in my life. IMHO these Fluance Signature Series are unrivaled for the price. The build quality is very nice. The enclosures offer a black lacquered front baffle that is very attractive displayed with or without the magnetic grills. The enclosures have rounded tapered sides that add a nice character. Most importantly the music reproduction is extremely accurate. I would consider these a flat response speaker. These speakers are definitely not boring. The midrange is very well defined and matched well to the highs and the bass response. I feel that for the money you will not find a speaker that competes with them. I have them paired with a 85 watt per channel Cambridge Audio Amp and I utilize an 8" Subwoofer that crosses over at 100hz.

Whoa What a Full Sounding Bookshelf Speaker Should Sound Like
Granted, I just received these speakers today. They produce A truly fantastic sound for Bookshelf Speakers (Flaunce calls them Surround Sound Book Shelf Speakers ). I hooked them up on my Basement stereo to play music only in order to play my drums together with My Favorite Tunes. I have a Boytone Mini Multi-Player which is hooked up via the headphone jack (there are no Outputs on the Boytone) into the Pyle Amp's Audio In jack with the appropriate cord. I could only imagine the TRUE sound of these speakers hooked to a real quality Receiver / AMP . The sound is Clean , Good Umph , and very good middle range delivery. The One Beauty of the Boytone is that it contains a record player, cassette deck, CD player, and a USB to play media files from a Flash drive and BT on top of it all. It is not a high quality unit by any means, but it does lost of things. You can directly record records, cassettes and CDs directly to the Flash Drive (although I have not really done that except to experiment). Enough about Boytone. I have never heard of Fluance, but did my research after learning about these wonderful speakers on Amazon. I also Ordered a Pair of Sony SS-CS5s. They are sound very good as well, but the Fluance I think is the winner. The Sonys will be going back. Yes, the Sonys are a few Bucks cheaper than Fluance, but these Fluance speakers just Sing, at least to my old ears (68). Both came in Quality packaging , but Fluance wins there too. Very well built and can be Wall Mounted. Others have said elsewhere for other Speaker review comments, that Speakers need to be Broken In. I never heard that before about stereo speakers (I own JBL 100s [over 40 years old and still going], beautiful KEFs 103s for over 33 years and still going strong - what a sound they produce ). So if that is the case that Speakers only get better after "Breaking In". thenWOW I am really in for musical Treat.

Hated them for the first 10 minutes.
These needed a short break in and some adjustment. I had some 14 gauge cable to start because my order for 12 gauge cable had not arrived yet. After I upgraded my DAC and cables these speakers came to life. Very nice sound detail I’m using them with a vintage Marantz receiver and they sound very good. Vinyl sounds rich and full when paired with an ART DJ Pre II preamp. They have descent bass but this is in my home office and I really don’t need that much bass right now. Plus you aren’t going to get much bass from a 5.25 woofer anyway. I think the bass is adequate. Thinking about a subwoofer later on. Very happy with this purchase and these speaker punch way above their price range. Especially when you look at the build quality and the styling. It’s hard to believe that these are 200 bucks. They fill the room with sound, have very nice clean sound detail and have a nice big sweet spot. The sound stage is excellent considering the price. Unless you are a snobby "audiophile" you will love these. I replaced $300 older speakers with these and I’m happy I did. Just get them before the prices go up. Update 11/1/2022: Added a small 8" subwoofer and WOW! I have pair of Definitive Technology speakers ($799.99ea.) in my main room and I swear these sound almost as good as the much more expensive ones, now that I have everything dialed in. Granted this is a much smaller room and I don't blast them. I can't imagine any speakers even at twice the price could sound better (maybe 3x as much would) needless to say I'm happy with this setup. I used to hate streaming music to my Airport Express but adding the DAC and these speakers with a budget sub have changed my mind. I'm listening to music much more now. I'm still a Vinyl lover though.

TL;DR: Overall, excellent speakers. I use them as my front speakers (even though it's meant to be used as a surround speaker with its two front vent ports). As near-field speakers, they are excellent out the box. However, midrange gets drown out as you move away from the speakers, so you'll want to tone the upper treble down. Room acoustic becomes more important as you move father, since sound waves are crashing/reinforcing more before reaching your ears. More info: I'd like to think that I have critical listening skills: I used the SineGen to sweep through the frequencies and find that the response to be nearly flat when positioned 1-1.5m from myself. There's a roll off in low frequency around 80hz and below, which is important to get the punchy sounds, so you'll need to invest in a subwoofer. There are no dips or peaks in FR as far as I can tell. I find that as you put the speakers farther away (maybe around 6-8 feet), the mids get drown out and things start to sound more sibilant. I'd recommend lowering the treble down maybe 2db on your receiver if possible. If not, you might want to experiment toe-ing the speakers. Imaging is superb; the tweeter frequency response was the same on both speakers unlike my Bose 301 V series (whose tweeters didn't match each other, which messes up the placement of sound).

The only thing that I didn’t like was that it didn’t give off the bass I was hoping for which I decided to get a subwoofer to go with and now all it right in my world. These speakers sound really good when used with a sub. By themselves heavy music is muddled. The speakers can’t handle double kickers. Megadeth is a challenge for them (by themselves). Old rock is fine, they sound nice and clear. I’m sure country would be fine. I did try some Public Enemy and Cypress Hill and I thought it was fine (until I got the sub). Heavy Metal tho? They didn’t do it for me and I was so sad because the build quality is amazing. The grills are magnetic, I have never seen that before. They look really good too. For the price they really look like speakers double the price. So by themselves if I was stuck and wasn’t able to get the sub, I’d be disappointed. My opinion as a metalhead. I bought a sub and that fixed my issue that I had with these speakers. They sound way better with a subwoofer. Totally different speaker now. Very clear. I can hear all instruments, the sound is very top notch. I can enjoy any metal album I put on. The older stuff sounds awesome. Pink Floyd sounds amazing with this setup. Pink Floyd, Nazareth, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Prodigy, AC/DC, Metallica, Lamb of God, Six Feet Under, Cradle of Filth. These are examples of what I listen to on the regular. I don’t consider myself an audiophile, I just know how music is supposed to sound and I needed to invest in a subwoofer to get the listening experience that I was searching for. I hope this helps other rockers shopping for speakers.
