FANTASTIC product!!
This pump has EXCEEDED my expectations!! I was ISO a lightweight, portable, affordable, weather resistant water pump; to assist in distributing water to a gravity fed irrigation system, in a residential application. . This product went above & beyond those requirements! It's sturdy, it's not too noisy, it's extremely efficient & has got a lot of power for its size & weight. I would 100% recommend this product & am BEYOND SATISFIED with its performance. Also, it was delivered sooner than originally expected. WIN! WIN!!

Wayne PC4 1/2 HP 115-Volt Transfer Water Pump, Cast Iron
Bought this pump so I could water my grass with sprinkler from rain barrels. I did a lot of research and watched some reviews on youtube but it was still not clear that it will work in this configuration. My next dilemma was buy local or through Amazon. After 3 trips to local hardware store nobody had it but it could be ordered. I figured if I had to wait I would just get it from Amazon, surprisingly it took only one day to get with free shipping, happy surprise! I have been using this for a month without any problems. I can basically hook this pump up to anything I can hook my city house water line up to and get the same pressure. It has no problems running regular hose nozzle, sprinkler (fan back and forth type, spinning circle type, tic tic tic type, even drip irrigation). Hopefully this pump will last for years. Too many things to list in paragraph form so I listed them. Pros 1. Pump is heavy duty and well built. 2. It has a nice handle casted into the frame. 3. Runs regular hose nozzles with same distance and pressure as city water. 4. Runs any of the sprinklers I hooked up to it with same distance and pressure as city water.. 5. No priming necessary when using a spigot on bottom of the rain barrel. 6. Empties 50 gallon rain barrel to sprinkler in about 10 minutes 7. Empties my three 33 gallon rain barrels hooked together in about 20 minutes. 8. Seems quite to me, I have heard way louder pumps. 9. Bushes are replaceable, you can find the kits on the internet. 10. Nice brass fittings provided with pump. 11. Runs fine on my 50ft extension cord and 75ft of hose. Cons 1. Had to prime if you were pulling water out of a barrel which was a pain. 2. Gets warm but not hot. I only run 10 minutes at a time. No sure how it would fair in a 1 hour + run? 3. Dragging hoses and electrical cords all around. 4. Price is little high. 5. No problem of pump but inherent to rain barrels is, dirt being pump to hose nozzles and sprinklers. Filter solves that but its added cost.

Simple, great water pressure, and much better than the cheap "made in China" pump I bought first
We need a water pump to pull water from our lake for the lawn. First, I allowed myself to be tempted by one of the cheaper "made in China" pumps on Amazon. It looked great, but came with like 15 plastic fittings that had no diagram and I'm clearly not smart enough to figure out how to configure all of the plastic parts on the intake and outlet ports of that pump. We wasted 3-4 hours of frustration, couldn't get it to work, then sent it back to Amazon. As a replacement I bought this Wayne PC4 - this is a WONDERFUL, POWERFUL LITTLE PUMP. It's idiot proof - hook a short hose (I bought a 5' garden hose) to the intake, attach the (included) strainer on the end and stick it in the lake. Hook a longer (I used 50', but it a 100' would have been fine) garden hose to the outlet, prime the pump, plug it in, and wait 15 seconds for it to begin pulling water. The water pressure was awesome - comparable to what I get from city water - which is 60 PSI. Downsides: * it's cast iron, so it's heavy. * removing the cap from the priming hole requires a crescent wrench - not a big deal, but they could have made this a twist-off cap or something. * there's no on/off switch. Plug it in to start, unplug to stop. Slightly annoying, but not a big deal. All in all, I LOVE THIS PUMP, and would buy it again 100 times - it's simple to set up, simple to use, and puts out great water pressure. Exactly what I wanted...

Inexpensive and effective
This review is for the Chinese made Wayne PC4 water pump with garden hose fittings. This small, solid and inexpensive pump powers an impact sprinkler used to water my lawn from spa waste water, about once every three months, when I change out the water during cleaning. As a bonus, it is useful as an emergency sump pump, when powered from a small (1 KW) generator during power outages. The cast-iron pump section must be primed before use through a threaded iron plug and it will discharge some rusty water after periods of extended storage. It is driven by a 115 volt AC/DC (runs off either) electric motor that uses brushes requiring changing every 100 hours. Wayne sells an inexpensive rebuild kit, including brushes, that is readily available. I've never needed to use this kit, since my use of the pump is occasional and total use is well under 100 hours. Purchasers should be aware that this pump is NOT suitable for continuous duty, unlike water well pumps, which are AC/brush-less and can run for years with little maintenance. I've measured the performance of this pump and it is very respectable: 40 PSI static pressure, just as specified by the manufacturer. With supplied garden hose adapters attached to inlet and outlet and 7 feet of 1 inch I.D. reinforced spa/suction hose attached to the inlet side (no hose attached to the outlet) the pump delivered 1046 GPH/17.4 GPM at zero lift. When throttled by 5 feet of 3/8 inch I.D. washing machine hose on the inlet (very restrictive) and 50 feet of 1/2 inch I.D. garden hose on the outlet it still delivered 5.5 GPM/331 GPH, at zero lift. Running one impact sprinkler through the more restrictive hoses, it managed to maintain 25 PSI head pressure and drive the sprinkler pattern to about 25 feet in radius (50 ft. in diameter). These figures compare very well to my 5/8 inch garden hose connected directly to a household spigot: 75 psi static pressure and 9.1 GPM/545 GPH. Regarding emergency use, the PC4 starts and runs just fine from my tiny Honda EU1000i generator. A "Kill-a-Watt" meter tells me that the PC4 draws about 7.5 amps (vs. 8 rated) at 121.5 volts AC, or 911 VA. The meter also indicated 775 watts power consumption, which hints that the power factor of the pump motor is pretty skewed (the motor is a very inductive load)as the VA number does not equal the wattage. But this made little difference to the Honda, which did not complain at all. In summary, the Wayne PC4 is an inexpensive, very compact and sturdy utility pump that performs very well when connected to inlet/outlet hoses of adequate diameter. It's ability to run from a small generator and move over 1,000 GPH makes it useful for emergency sump pumping/dewatering. It also functions well as an auxiliary lawn irrigation pump, with enough pressure and flow to drive one (or maybe two) impact sprinklers. The PC4 is more suitable for intermittent rather than continuous duty since its motor brushes must be changed every 100 hours of use. If it did not have this significant limitation, I would have rated the PC4 at 5 stars, rather than 4. PROS: Inexpensive, compact, physically sturdy, very good pumping performance CONS: Discharges rusty water after periods of non-use, requires servicing every 100 hours of operation

Great little pump
Could not find anyone in my local area to fill my hydroponic (hot water) domestic heating system with some glycol water mix. I had a previous freezing problem (Michigan resident) so I was motivated to get it done. I drained the old water out and measured it. I bought 5 gal of Dow food grade polypropylene glycol and 15 gal of distilled water but could not figure out how to get it into the system. Gravity did not seem to work. A small submersible pump was pathetic. I bought this 1/2 HP pump and it worked extremely well. I purged the system first with tap water, using the pump. The pipes and boiler were very dirty since they are 32 years old and my make-up water is from a well. I filled the boiler first, with the glycol, and then each zone with distilled water. The pump made the filling and bubble purging go very fast. I used a piece of iron pipe as an inlet and a garden hose as an outlet. The pump is heavy and cast iron so you need to be careful about it rusting. I added some vegetable oil to help keep it from rusting. I would recommend this pump, great value for what it does. It would be even better if it had an on/off switch on it.

The best on the market.
This pump may very well be a knockoff. Ive used this model wayne pump for years and years on my farm. Ive gone through multiple pumps over the years. I run them to pump pond water for roughly 3 hrs at a time once a month, and they have always lasted at least 3 years. This one either has a horrible design change or it is not a real Wayne pump. Ive only used it 4 times and already the impeller stripped out and it stopped pumping. I had to take an old one apart and use the impeller in it. For the price of this new design or knockoff it is extremely disappointing. I will have to modify this piece of crap to get it to work again. If this is how they are from now on I will NEVER buy them again.

If Running off a water tank, put a check valve inline
I have gone through two cheap pumps from Harbor Freight so I didn't want to go that route again. I looked up "Reviews 1/2 HP water transfer pump" and I kept consistently seeing Wayne pumps as a good products and the reviews here at Amazon looked good. I didn't need a big pump, I mainly use it to transfer water between my rain harvesting tanks around the house down to my big tank by the garden, since that is where most of my irrigation needs are, and then to run the oscillating sprinkler occasionally and the drip irrigation systems. The only problem I had was when I first hooked it up it didn't make a smooth sound, sort of whirled. I checked back at the tank faucet and I could hear a gurgling sound so I thought, maybe I should get a check valve to put between the tank and the pump. My tank was almost full at the time and you would think 1320 gallons of water would exert enough pressure that you wouldn't get backflow. I went to a local hardware store, found a check valve and put it on the intake side of the pump. Problem solved. Now it ran with a smooth sound and was running the oscillating sprinkler just fine. It also works fine on the drip lines even though they have a 25 psi regulator on them. I do run it with a really long hose to the drip lines so hopefully the pressure is falling off a bit. So far so good. Seems sturdily built. You would be surprised at how heavy it is. I will be transferring water from another tank to the garden tank soon, so we will see how fast it pumps.

Great Lil pump
* update * The pump corroded and stop working just a little past three months, right after the return window. Really sad because it was a great pump but too expensive to re-order. I bought this pump to make a solar heater for my inground pool, it has been fabulous and works great on a timer, only had to prime pump the first time. The pump was so strong I had to buy a reinforced intake hose, after that my pool temperature gets raised about 2ยฐ a day on 300 feet of black hose that is coiled

Works as Advertized
I used the pump to fill a tank that is on the second floor of a cabin and it pushed the water up the vertical distance without problem. Tank was filled in no time. It was easy to use and easy to prime. Also the connections fit either standard connections but come with adapters for garden hoses which was useful to me.

This pump worked like a dang for filling the pipes in in-slab hydronic heating. I left it hooked up for yearly maintenance of the glycol and other components of the system. I wasted my time trying a drill pump and and an RV style water pump. This Wayne pump effortlessly pressures the system up to the operating pressure ( usually 15 to 25 psi). It is great for purging the lines of air. It can be used for many other things as well. I LIKE IT!!!

Runs like a champ
I bought it to quickly drain a waterbed...it took a total of 20 minutes! Earlier this week I needed to drain a water softener to a sump 75 feet away. Again, 5 minutes. It's easy to use and fits standard threaded garden hoses.

Seems to have rusted early
Pumps water like a pump should... Currently using this pump to pull water from my above ground pool and push it through a solar heating system through my yard. The pump has no issues drawing the water out pushing it through 400ft of 3/4in tubing at grade. The one downside was it was put away with surface water on it and started to rust almost immediately over night (maybe saltwater pool caused). The inside still had pool water in and also started rusting. Since then I have surface wiped it after use and store it on its side to drain water out.

Cracked casting
Pump sat new boxed for a whole year in my heated garage as my project took longer then Anticipated. Used last season june-sept to transfer rain barrel water to garden, pump worked great, just went to pull it out of the heated garage and noticed the casting is cracked. Not sure how long it will last because it holds the electric motor, pump was never dropped and cant see yo find the manual for warrenty. Any WAYNE pump people Help me? Was gonna order a second but having second thoughts now.
