Carhartt Men's Iconic J01 Duck Detroit Jacket

Long overdue. I've been eyeing this jacket for years, but living in Sydney means paying a serious markup, usually somewhere in the 300-400 AUD range. Coming to the States and grabbing it at a fraction of that price felt like a win before I even tried it on. And the jacket itself didn't disappoint. The Detroit is built from 12-ounce, 100% ringspun cotton duck, with a blanket lining through the body and quilted nylon through the sleeves. It's legitimately tough. You can tell just from holding it that this thing is going to last, not a few seasons, but years. Triple-stitched main seams and a pleated bi-swing back back that up, giving you real durability without sacrificing mobility. On sizing: plenty of reviews will tell you it runs small, but I found it fits true to size. The relaxed fit gives you moderate room through the chest, shoulders, and body, with enough space to layer a tee or lightweight top underneath. It's not oversized or boxy, just a clean, natural silhouette. The drop-tail hem gives you extra coverage without getting in the way of a tool belt, and the pockets are exactly where you'd want them. Two lower front pockets, two interior pockets, and a left chest zip pocket make this genuinely practical day to day. If you've been on the fence, especially fellow Australians who know the pain of the local pricing, just get it next time you're in the US. Totally worth it.

I’m giving this product 5 stars for now based on the fact that I have other Carhartt products and they have served me well and I expect this one to do the same. I bought this jacket for work, I have a nice Sherpa lined rain defender Carhartt sweater but I knew wearing it to work (I’m a plumber) would snag and possibly ruin the outside. This material feels a lot more abrasion resistant and will hold up for my line of work. I live in Florida, and although it doesn’t snow where I live, it’s not uncommon for the temperatures to drop below freezing early in the morning and feel like the high 20’s. I love the blanket lining and it is VERY warm (for me at least). I bought a large and I’m glad that I did. A medium would have definitely fit better (I’m 6’0, 185 athletic build with broader shoulders than average) but my wife and I do like to vacation in colder areas and having this in a large will allow me to layer if needed. The length isn’t that short cut because the jacket is a relaxed fit and fits loosely. As a service plumber it looks professional and in my opinion can be dressed up and worn out to dinner or a night out in the town or dressed down through rough working environments. Lastly, I feel I got lucky because as the others have posted their pictures, their tags say that theirs were made in other countries, but mine was made right here in the USA, hopefully you get one made here too!

The Carhartt J01 Detroit Jacket is excellent quality and built to last. The duck fabric feels tough and durable, while the classic design looks great. It fits comfortably and provides plenty of warmth without feeling overly bulky. A versatile jacket that works well for everyday wear. Very happy with this purchase!

The product does not disappoint I’ve really enjoyed this jacket it feels amazing coming out of the box and it’s snug and comfortable it provides a good amount of warmth and it’s amazing for the price and it somewhat water resistant, pockets are also warm overall great product

Cut for flat bellys. The rib knit bottom style looks better on me and does not let cold air in. The current garment sold here is not the old sanded cloth material (sandstone ?) but is the visible weave material Carhartt is using now. Doesn't look as good or authentic. This jacket has mostly blanket lined body with slick nylon or polyester with insulation in the sleeves. There are gussets in the back shoulder area for freedom of movement. Zipper front with snap sleeve cuffs. I had to unsnap to get the jacket off. Exterior chest zipper note pad pocket. Interior zipper pocket and interior velcro closure pocket. Two exterior scoop handwarmer pockets. Snaps under corduroy collar for hood(?) Warmth rating of 1 but feels warmer. I find Carhartt sizing to be all over the place. Tag said "relaxed fit". Their large full zip sweatshirt hoodie says "loose fit". A Large fits me like a glove with a tee shirt under. XL in same garment is too big I got this in XL and its a little big in the back but with an old man belly I dont think I could wear a Large. I'm 6'4/235 wearing a 38 waist jean. All Carhart items mentioned above were purchased as talls. This jacket in tall is still kinda short and falls on me at the belt line. I wear a lot of Carhartt and LL Bean, tall tops and outerwear, regular length bottoms.

Very nice high quality jacket. Will keep you warm while being light enough to not overheat on cool spring/fall days. Inside of chest/back is fabric while the inside of the arms are plastic/synthetic quilt making it easy to layer with long sleeves. Good wind resistance and water resistance. Nice for either work or casual wear. Definitely worth every penny and will not need another coat for a long time

Purchased as a gift. Of course all the kids want this jacket. Hard to find during the holiday season but grateful I was able to find it on Amazon. Fit perfectly and nice and warm. Great value

I hope this helps many people. The jacket is as described; it runs a little larger than normal. It's bigger than a regular jacket, apparently designed to be layered underneath, but the sleeves are fitted and it's longer than usual. It's long enough to wear some thicker clothing underneath. It's comfortable, high-quality, and very durable, judging by the fabric. Ideal for work or casual wear, it's guaranteed to last a long time. My advice, as always, is to order one size down, and if it's uncomfortable, go for a larger size or a Tall. It's excellent, and I really like its short design and long sleeves. Espero que esto ayude a muchos, La chaqueta es como se comenta, corre un poco mas grande de lo normal. Es mas grande que una chaqueta normal al parecer esta disenada para llaver otras piezas por debajo, pero su diseño es ajustado en las mangas y mas largo que lo normal. Es lo suficientemente larga como para llevar ropa algo gruesa debajo. Es comoda, calidad y muy resistente segun su tela. Ideal para trabajar o vestir garantiza una larga vida util. Mi consejo es igual que todo un size menos y en caso de incomodidad ir por el talla alta o Tall. Es exelente y me gusta mucho su diseño corto y mangas largas.

Excelente! La calidad es buenísima! Sirve para nevadas ligeras y temperaturas de -7° sin problema, la talla es tal cual, pedí una M y me quedó perfecta, mido 1.77 y peso 73 kilos.

The original XXXL I ordered sat too high at the waist-- so I returned it for a XXXL-Tall. This jacket brings back memories of the Lee Stormriders I used to own years ago --- with better pocket options and a full zipper. It's a very comfortable and practical jacket if you order the right size. I highly recommend it.

no tag and it smells used

I couldn't be happier, sizing is same as the other workwear hoody I got. so I was hoping it'll be the same for the Detroit. Lucky for me it is! Extremely happy with my purchase! Thank you Arrived 1 week here in Australia.
