The straightedge arrived well packaged, and the product is well-crafted. I used 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper to remove very slight burrs on both edges. I consider this a fine straight edge and tear bar for printmaking paper and many other uses.

Straight and true, with beveled edge which helps facilitate cutting. I use it for trimming things related to book binding. I mounted it to a board with a cutting mat under it, where I can clamp it down with bolts and star nuts, to get straight and uniform cuts.

You get what you pay for. I have two pieces of steel sticking out of my hand before I even got it out of the packaging. I tried to sand them off but they are big and deep enough that after 10 minutes of sanding with 240, the burrs are still present. To get this smooth, I’m pretty sure it would be even less straight than it already is.

Good, clean straight-edge. No nicks or burrs. Well made, thick on one edge and a near knife-edge on the other.

I like that it is stainless steel. It seems well made.

Glad I read the reviews. Handle this as you would a straight edge razor. This thing is dangerous. It is razor sharp on all sides. No joke. I went at it (carefully) with 280 wet and dry sandpaper until it was safe to touch.

Short version: If you need a tear bar but can't find an alternative, this will work but don't expect high quality craftsmanship. Long version: I just moved and lost access to the University studio which had quite a few tear bars, so I ordered this product. It is not nearly as dense the massive tear bars I used to work with and is significantly lighter than expected. Still figuring out if this is a good thing or not, especially for the price. However, It tears 140lb Arches watercolor paper just fine and does sit perfectly flat on every surface. It is a little dented on a corner, but I'm not running into the same issues with burs as several others in the comments.
