Council tool sport utility Jersey 3.5
This is a great buy in todays market for a solid axe. It is the sport utility model so it may need some tuning for hardcore Axe guys. Mine had a a decent edge out of the box. The handle is really nice. I got great grain orientation and the machine hang didnt leave a shelf like some axes hung the same way. I used it to do some splitting which it did pretty easily for me, even though its more of a felling style. Prior to use, I did some light sanding and oiled the handle and around the wedge and eye. Its really started to patina nicely.

Quality US product!
I was tired of not finding axes at home improvement and ranch supply stores or the ones i did find being low quality and made somewhere an axe has no buisness being made. So i took to Amazon and came upon the Council Tool Jersey Classic. Im no competitive lumber jack but i really liked the bevels in this axe. Its not that the axe lacked in anything I just enjoy making some tools my own and i sanded and finished the handle the way i like. I used tung oil becase thats what I had. I also sharpenened the head which i didn't have to. I really like the finish that is left on the head and it performed quite well for me felling and spliting. Very happy, This is a Quality Product for a fair price!

A true wood chopper
I debated on the 5# or this 3.5# ax and went with this one. I could tell lifting it out of the box that this was a nicely balanced ax. It came sharp out of the box, took it out after work and split some wood with it. It did a really nice job and sharpened back up quickly. Very impressed with this thing, it splits like a big ax but I wouldn't hesitate to take it with me on a canoe trip if it was needed.

Lower the price and it would be a good buy
I like that’s it’s made in the USA. The steel seems quality and hasn’t chipped on me yet. Handle has good grain patterns. The wedges they use are outstanding. The reason I am giving this a 3 star review is because I noticed the blade is cantered to the right by a eighth of an inch and not perfectly in line with the handle. Also, within the first 10 logs I split, the neck of the handle is dented pretty significantly. For almost $100, I expected better quality.

Quality axe
VERY fine workmanship. This is an axeman's axe. Very good grind. Straight grained, nicely thinned handle.

Awesome axe for the price
I own about 20 axes, including Hults Bruk, Gransfors Bruk, Helko Werk, Council Tool Velvicut, and Council Tool Woodcraft. This Council Tool Sport Utility axe came just a sharp, the handle has excellent grain orientation, the head is hung perfectly, and the handle shape is very comfortable. I would order this axe again every day and twice on Sunday. I am very pleased with this axe. Just as good as my higher priced axes at a fraction of the cost.

looks serviceable but...
The axe looks promising for the price but I specifically ordered it with a sheath, and it arrived without a sheath. I will update this review once we have (I hope) worked that out.
