Realize this is very small
It is shockingly small. I am bad at picturing sizes, but this was way beyond my minds image. And it was packed in like a 12x14 in box! Crazy!!

Check the local codes in your town.
If you are not required to use the primer in your city DO NOT USE IT. Once you or one of your journeymen get it in your eyes you will understand. Never never use it above floor level and never on a ladder. It is so thin it can be controlled. There is no data that proves you will have a stronger joint. Unfortunately it is now baked into codes.

doing it right
When working pvc pipe it used to be that inspectors liked to see a little purple on the joints. But also it does make the surface more ready for the glue in my opinion. You get a good job.
