I really want to get this but am put off by the fact it's mono. Does this speaker overcome this apparent defect?

It all depends on your requirements. Given its size, stereo sound separation is a non-issue. I’m not sitting ‘front & centre’ of it like my kefLS50s or Focal Arias paired to my amp and DAC. This is a pocketable portable speaker whose bass response far outweighs its competitors, albeit for a price. However by their very nature ‘portable audio’ at this size generally is mono, Bose included. Rather than opting for stereo tonality they’re focussed on quality and roomfilling ability. Hence why this has two 30watt amps, one for the woofer & one for the tweeter. Hardly a defect. If you’re after stereo at this budget you’re looking at the wrong products. Perhaps buy two? Or indeed if you don’t need the portability grab a pair of KefLS50 Wireless or if budget doesn’t permit something like the wireless Q-Accustics. However if you’re after large sound and portability, this is it.

Can it connect to an amplifier

There is only connector which is usb for charging. The music connector to the speaker is via Bluetooth. The speaker has its own amplifier hence 2x140 watts. This is a powerful speaker, but where is stands out is sound reproduction . I have heard sounds in old tunes that I have never heard before, even pink Floyd.

What is the country of manufacture? (i’d rather support great uk & eu businesses than communist china. worth this little question i think.)
