Baby Signs: A Baby-Sized Introduction to Speaking with Sign Language [Allen, Joy] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Baby Signs: A Baby-Sized Introduction to Speaking with Sign Language Review: Great educational book - Great instructional book to get a child started Review: Baby's Favorite - This book was chosen as a gift for a 7-month-old because in my research of quality baby books I found this one on several lists, and also read that babies love looking at pictures of other babies. She does love looking at the babies pictured in the book. She holds the book and turns the pages herself. It is sturdy and pages are easy for baby to turn. It is her new favorite book. While some have commented on reviews that the signs are not all accurate, for little ones I think it is a good beginning for communication, when not yet ready for speech.

The book covers the basics and is illustrated in a way that makes it easy to figure out the hand gestures
This book is more for me and my husband than our 6mo son, at this point! We noticed him tracking our hand movements with his eyes and just becoming overall more aware of his surroundings, so I rushed to buy this because it's never too early to start! My mom used simple sign language with myself and my siblings as babies, so I knew it worked. We've had the book for a couple weeks and have started incorporating the signs into our lives. Our son isn't quite developmentally ready to mimic them back, but the book has helped my husband I remember the signs and honestly just seeing this book lie around the house reminds us to use them! The book covers the basics and is illustrated in a way that makes it easy to figure out the hand gestures. I plan on buying this for all my first time mom friends!

Our baby loves the book!
Our 3 month old loves this book. The illustrations are so charming that he is laughing, giggling and wiggling through the reading of every page. Did he learn to sign? Of course not, not yet, he's only 3 months old. I wish the pictures with the signs could be a little bigger, and I would have added a few more words: please, thank you, potty, grandma and grandpa. It is still a good book and accomplishing what we wanted. We are enjoying reading the book with our baby frequently which means we have learned the signs and are using them. Baby will too in his time. He already recognizes the sign for milk, we think, but his fingers can't copy us yet.

First book my daughter read and GO TO as a gift for new parents
I have a 9 year old daughter who not only learned to communicate well before she was talking, this was the first book she "read" in signing to me while turning the pages. It's been MUST gift for any new parent I know and my daughter loves to tell the story. Communication wise, the perfect set of words needed to get to the talking stage with very little frustrations between us (AKA nearly no tantrums, at least that I can remember).

Absolutely Wonderful!
I went through this book with my 4 and 1/2 month daughter yesterday and today, and have been doing the signs as well. I was surprised when she actually did one of the signs back to me! I'll make one of the signs while saying the word and she lights up, so fun! It's a board book, so she's able to naw and slobber to her heart's content. My 8 and 9 year old children are also signing to her, and are wanting to learn more. This is a great book for anyone who knows nothing about signing. I plan on buying more books and reference tools, because I can definitely see this as something beneficial for my whole family. What an amazing way to communicate with my tiny person, who has yet to be more verbal than ''ahhhh'', ''ooooh'', some other mumbly sounds, spitting and what seems to be, me getting yelled at, haha. The book has the signs for milk, water, more, all done, diaper, dog, cat, it hurts, help me, mommy, daddy, book and sleepy. I highly recommend.

Great Baby Shower Gift!
I bought this for part of baby shower gift. If I receive an invitation and are asked to give a book, I always purchase this. I taught sign language to my granddaughter and it completely works. The Mom-To-Be loved it.

Great illustrations and instructions for useful signs
This book is really cute. It helps to know the signs, but I think the written descriptions and hand illustrations do a good enough job for teaching parents how to teach kids. The signs are useful, and they're some of the ones that kids will most frequently use. I also like that it's a colorful book with fun illustrations, so you can teach kids signs in an engaging way. More fun, and teaches with greater reinforcement, than simply signing and saying the word and pointing. I love this book, and I'm glad it's one of the tools for teaching baby sign language.

Cute illustrations and practical vocabulary. A good mix of starter ASL signs. Reading and signing together can help build vocabulary and literacy skills simultaneously. My favourite gift to give new parents.
