Capturing the Devil (Stalking Jack the Ripper, 4)

Audrey Rose and Thomas have been through hell and back... and it isn't over. There's a killer on the loose that reminds them a bit too much of their first case- Jack the Ripper. But Jack's dead.... isn't he? Racing against the clock with very few clues to go on, can they put an end to this murderer's spree... or will one of them become his latest victim? There was so much to love in this book! Audrey and Thomas are getting closer to spending their lives together, though it won't be an easy road by any means! We're still dealing with Audrey's grief and guilt, and Thomas' worry that Audrey will change her mind. It's odd seeing him so vulnerable, but it's really good (there was actually a novella that gave us more of an insight into Thomas' mind in the timeline right before this book called Becoming the Dark Prince). While there were bits where the characters tended to be a bit.... over dramatic, let's say... it did remind me of one of those Gothic novels that would have been popular in this time frame and it stayed in keeping with the other books of the series. The premise here, finding out that Jack had a partner that may have made it to America, was really interesting and I loved watching Audrey work through her feelings about her brother. The characters are charming, and the writing has a great flow to it. This was a fantastic quick read, with the added bonus of some great pictures inserted. What really interested me, though, was the historical significance of the villian (that's all I am going to say here.... sorry, I do try to keep spoilers to a minimum). I am actually going to be looking for books on this person, as I am really intrigued. For me, this was the perfect way to wrap up the series. Five stars all the way! On the adult content scale, there's a lot of violence, language, and some sexual content. Nothing too over the top... but I would still say older teens- sixteen and up. Let's give it a five.

When it's a series I love, I always find it hard to wrap-u the last book. I end up trying to prolong reading it so that I can stay with the characters and in the world for longer. The Stalking Jack the Ripper series is one of those series I’m sad to see end. Capturing the Devil was a phenomenal last book. Kerri Maniscalco created a culminating story that really brought the whole series to a close in a way that I was able to connect with. The way this book brought things full circle with the events of Stalking Jack the Ripper absolutely blew my mind. I wasn’t expecting any of what happened to take place. The plot is so incredibly intriguing that I was anxious the whole time as I tried to figure out who the criminal was. There was a tension between wanting to keep reading to figure out who did it, while at the same time trying to take my time so I could stay in the story longer. Truths were uncovered and the thriller aspect of this story is in full effect. I love the way Maniscalco is able to weave these stories. The use of historical facts and the liberties she takes within the story, always seem to make sense. Despite the fact that these murders have never been solved, I felt the conclusion to the story was completely satisfactory. Maniscalco’s writing is stellar and I love that I have been able to watch her growth as a writer by reading this series. One thing I love about crime stories is the way that authors will leave clues littered through the book. I always try my best to uncover as many as possible so that I can make sense of where they are leading. Something that Maniscalo does that I love is that at the end of her books she adds a section discussing the facts surrounding the storyline. She talks about the things she changed and will address some of the clues. I’m a sucker for a true crime story, so anytime I'm able to uncover what fact makes me even more excited and invested. We see a level in Thomas’ and Audrey Rose’s relationship that they have not previously met. These two characters have a deep connection that they do not share with anyone else. I love the way Thomas is this confident person who will stand up for Audrey Rose, even though he knows she can handle it herself, but at the same time, he often doubts that he is deserving of her love. It makes for interesting interactions and sometimes adds tension. Anyone who hasn't read the Stalking Jack the Ripper series is missing out. Capturing the Devil is everything I hoped it would be and more! It offers a beautiful conclusion to the love story of Audrey Rose Wadsworth and Thomas Creswell. It is clear that things have been leading up to this book and Mansicalco masterfully crafted this story. Seriously, if you haven’t yet read this book, you are missing out big time!

If you’re a fan of historical fiction and mystery, you’ll love these novels! They’re brilliant! They say they’re directed at young adults, but I’m 60 and can’t put them down! The author has done her homework and crafted a tale based on historically accurate information that is mesmerizing. Buy the series. You won’t regret it!

This series came full circle! I adore Thomas, he can spill his heart, be completely closed off, and say highly inappropriate yet totally adorable things to Audrey. He is not afraid to show her who he is or what he thinks. Audrey has grown so much. She is more confident in her beliefs, skills, and in her love of Thomas. They perfectly complement each other. Also, Audrey's grandma is straight goals! I loved her! She was not taking crap from no one, but also regal in her delivery. This time the m*rderer did not catch me off guard, but the chase was great! The conclusion was fantastic and so much happened that kept you on your toes. Highly recommend this series!

Este libro da final a la saga de ''Jack el Destripador'' y a la historia entre Audrey Rose y Thomas. Me gustó bastante el drama y el misterio del nuevo asesino, aunque creo que el tercer libro sigue siendo mi favorito. Aquí aparecen personajes de los anteriores libros y otros nuevos (algunos presentados como villanos y otros como apoyo) y se retoma el final de ''a la caza de Houdini''.

This was honestly one of my most anticipated reads of this year. I planned to read just a few chapters before going to bed but then that plot twist hit and I had to keep on reading. I finished at 4am in the morning. The book was really good! Now I'm a bit sad that it's over though. What is this book about: The book starts off where the last one ended. Audrey-Rose and Thomas just arrived in America and discovered they, well not they personally but the ship they where on, delivered America it's own Jack the Ripper. Things seem to be progressing well between Audrey Rose and Thomas. They are back on track after their hick up in book 3, but not everyone seems to be on board with their love. Someone is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure they don't get married. With a race against the clock Audrey Rose and Thomas are trying to catch the Devil before he kills again and before everything they worked for, everything they wanted gets ripped away from them. What did I love about this book: I love Audrey Rose and Thomas's relationship. They are for sure one of my OTP. I love their growth and how they worked together. My heart stopped at their wedding. For those of you who read the book, you'll know why. I honestly sped read through the rest of the book because I had to know how things would work out. How they could possibly fix the damage. I hated Thomas's father so so so much. I can't phantom why he would do that to his on child, to his own children. By the end I was still so mad at him, and I couldn't grasp why Audrey Rose and Thomas let him be at their wedding in the end. Like my god, I would have tossed his sorry ass off a cliff and call it an accident. Overall it was a great conclusion to the series. The series took a twist I didn't expect when I read the first book. Everything came together so well. Kerri has raw skill and talent, it's amazing that this is her first series. I can't wait to see what else she can come up with. Rating: 5 amazing stars

mia figlia era felicissima

Nachdem die Autorin mit den ersten 3 Bänden absolut überzeugen konnte, war es unmöglich am finalen Band der Reihe vorbei zu kommen. Ich war gespannt, welches Abenteuer Audrey Rose und Thomas dieses Mal bestreiten müssen und mit welchen Morden wir es wohl zu tun bekommen. Mit dem Schreibstil schafft Kerri Maniscalco es tatsächlich auch hier wieder zu überzeugen. Sie zieht einen in die Geschichte und schafft es, dass man merkt wie es den Charakteren geht und mit ihnen mitfiebert. Was ich spannend fand war, dass wir uns mordtechnisch wieder dem Anfang widmen. Nur mit dem Unterschied, dass wir uns in New York befinden und nicht in London. Doch wie kann es sein, dass die Morde wieder denen von Jack the Ripper ähneln? Der ist doch eigentlich tot.....oder doch nicht? Wie immer gilt es dem Täter auf die Spur zu kommen und das schnellstmöglich, um weitere Tote zu verhindern. Doch wer wird das letzte Opfer des Rippers sein? Neben den Morden nähern sich Audrey und Thomas, aber auch noch weiteren ernsteren Themen. Zum Beispiel ihrem gemeinsamen Leben. Doch scheint eine Ehe mit Thomas hon einem Moment auf den nächsten aussichtslos. Ich war fassungslos und wollte heulen. Wie Audrey. Denn diese will, weder den Ruf ihrer oder den von Thomas Familie aufs Spiel setzen. Also zieht sie sich schweren Herzens zurück. Audrey tat mir so wahnsinnig leid. Aber auch an Tjlmas geht das Ganze nicht spurlos vorbei. Er wirkt so verletzlich, aber das macht ihn so wahnsinnig sympathisch und menschlich. Er ist ja sonst eher der abgebrühte Typ. Ob die beiden nich ein Happy End bekommen, müsst ihr selbst herausfinden. Mit den Charakteren hat die Autorin wieder Alles richtig gemacht. Audrey und Thomas sind menschlicher und verletzlicher denn je. Einfach authentisch, liebenswert und zum Vermissen lieb gewonnen. Die beiden werden mir wirklich fehlen. Ich habe mit ihnen gelacht, geweint, mitgelitten und war auf interessanter Spurensuche. Danke für 4 tolle Bücher in denen die Charaktere nie geschwächelt haben. Fazit Für mich ein perfekter Abschluss für diese Reihe. Sowie in den Vorgängerbänden glänzen die Charaktere und die Handlung, durch Glaubwürdigkeit und Spannung. Ich wünsche mir wirklich, dass sich ein deutscher Verlag darum bemüht und diese Bücher hier auf den Markt bringt. Am Besten auch mit den illustrierten Inhalten, denn diese gehören einfach mit dazu. Ich hoffe, in Zukunft noch mehr von dieser Autorin lesen zu können, denn das sie schreiben kann, hat sie bewiesen.
