Opening small took long time to get foot in any ideas

A shoe horn is a wonderful investment. You can get them in various lengths so make it easier to put on. Great for this problem, as well as for people who have issues leaning over to put their boots on.

Do these boots polish up or stay with the worn look?

They do polish up nice and keep the nice worn leather look very nicely.

Most boots stretch, should I go one size down to allow for stretching?

For me, I should have gone for a half size smaller. These will fit with insulated socks, but feel loose with lighter-weight summer socks.
