Will I need to purchase additional acessories

IF you are planning to use it for iPhone 5, you have to check if in the present description the cable with the small connector or a proper adapter is included in the kit. When I bought  it several months ago, the 9 pin adapter was not included but only the 30 pin old style.  I purchased an additional USB to 9 pin cable short coiled cable for not depending on the original cable that comes with the phone that , of course does the job.

Can you bring this on the airplane with you?

You can bring this on an airplane in the U.S. However, be aware that if you travel OUTSIDE the U.S., it could be confiscated.  My daughter traveled to China this past March and went through our airport security with this Anker charger with no problems, but upon her return, the Chinese airport officials in Beijing confiscated it.

Question 3

If my iPhone 5s has a fully discharged battery, is there sufficient current to make a phone call immediately when I plug in the Anker?

I read that this charger gets hot while charging and am wondering if I should worry about keeping it in my purse (not well ventilated) while I use it?

The only time it got hot on me was when I was playing a game on my phone while it was charging (yeah I know - not the smartest thing to do!).  The charger does not get hot during normal charging when the phone is not in use.   However I would send a note to Anker and ask them about ventilation.  Any battery or energy device generally needs some type of ventilation during use.   Even Kindle says that if you have the reader in a protective cover, leave the cover open for ventilation during charging.
