easy to read from my kitchen window where it's mounted ...
Simply said this seems to do the job, price was right, easy to read from my kitchen window where it's mounted on the outside of my garage about 15 feed away. Is it dead on accurate, who knows and I don't care, just so long as it is within several degrees I'm happy, there is not much difference in human suffering when out working in the yard between 97 and 100 degrees and the same will be true between 20 and 25 degrees below zero this next Winter, I'm just not that particular, just wanted something I could read from inside the house that would give me a fairly accurate idea of what the temp was outside, gives me something to complain about, oh, and the price wasn't bad at all. You could probably pick one of these up at any Wal-Mart, or like store, but I don't live blocks away from one of these stores, but 40 miles away and with cheap sipping it is much simpler to have some things brought right to my door. I have amazon prime, which costs a bit, but over a year I will more than save on shipping to offset the cost, you wouldn't think you would order than many things, but when you don't have to drive to town, and the item is going to be at your front door in less than a week, and you get to sit at your computer and compare several brands and models of a particular item, as well as read the review of other customers, well you simply wind up ordering instead of making the trip to town, and for some of us who live in rural areas, as I do, going to town is not all that simple. If you are looking for a simple, easy to read thermometer then this is for you.

Nice and easy to see from a distance
looks and works great. I put this thermometer outside in the carport and the next morning I compared the temp with my Fluke meter which is calibrated to be within + or - .5 degrees. The thermometer was off about 4 degrees low. So I took the lens cover off and tweeked the arm by forcing it counterclockwise about 1 full turn to make the pointer point at the correct temp. This is a little tricky, so if you try this be carefull not to over do it. It took me about 4 tries to get it to point at the correct temp, First time was too high, so I moved the pointer clockwise, then was too low by a couple degrees, Finally after a couple more tries I got it right on. I put the lens cover back on and now it is suprisingly accurate. keep temps within about 1 degree of what it actually is. I like that it's large enough that I can look out my window and see what temp it is without having to go outside. Note: that when you install it to make sure you don't put it in direct sunlight, keep it in the shade. I would recommend this to other customers

I was looking for something that could mount on a wall and be easy to read from a distance so I'd know when ...
I bought this to use in a storage building. I was looking for something that could mount on a wall and be easy to read from a distance so I'd know when temps are approaching freezing. I have two other thermometers in the building but they are small and harder to read. This thermometer is not accurate. Reads 10 degrees below the actual temperature. Verified using both of my other thermometers, they agree with each other and one is a type used by HVAC technicians. I called the company, AcuRite, they have a toll free number printed on the box. Asked if there was any way to calibrate this device, the guy said maybe if you can figure out a way to take it apart somehow. Well it's all glued together. Told him I was going to post a bad review on the seller's website. This only cost about eight bux at the time I bought it so I will simply throw it away and learn my lesson.

Good value
Stopped working after four years, which is longer than most things survive outdoors in southern Arizona.

An Excellent Basic Thermometer
I needed an outside thermometer to fill in for the weather station while it was sent in for repair. I chose the AcuRite 01360 based on the low price and large dial.I first hung the thermometer on the north side of a cedar fence. When I checked later, the temperature reading was 80 degree, 20 degrees higher than expected. I removed it from the fence and the dial began to drop. It appears that the sun, which was making a rare appearance for this time of year, was shining on the south side of the fence and warming the boards enough to affect the thermometer. I then hung the thermometer on a fence post and it read a more seasonal 60.So, not only don't hand the thermometer in the sun, but also not on anything which may be heated by the sun.The weather station has been repaired and the two thermometers have been in agreement. The thermometer is an outstanding value. If needed, calibration instructions are available. Written instructions are somewhat hidden on the AcuRite.com, but may be found at:[...]There is also a video on YouTube at:[...]
