desertcart.com: The Complete TurtleTrader: How 23 Novice Investors Became Overnight Millionaires: 9780061241710: Covel, Michael W.: Books Review: This book is entertaining (and as a side note, it has made me money in the cryptocurrency market) - This book is for non-traders. You don't need to have any technical knowledge of trading to understand it and find it highly entertaining and informative. I recommend it, If anything, to learn about Richard Dennis and his reality TV style antics in the 80s futures markets. He basically put a craigslist ad up saying that anyone could apply to trade with his system of rules, no experience required, and he’d give them all 1 million dollars of his money to trade with. The majority of the people had no trading experience, they knew nothing about the markets they were trading in nor how to trade … but they were very successful, some of them are still trading today with their own billion dollar funds. While reading the book in 2013, it just so happened to be around when bitcoin popped. I started using his rules to trade altcoins and I made a bunch of money following his strategy laid out in the book! I've actually been using this book as a guideline to trade cryptocurrencies since then on and off, and I've netted well over 6 figures trading the turtle trading method. The author, Michael Covel has a great podcast as well. Don't bother with any of Covel's other books - Trend Following, Trend Commandments, etc are just rehashes of the same story. There's no solid strategy in any of his other books. THIS is the one you want to get. If you don't get this book you should at least subscribe to his podcast, in fact, in Covel's other audiobooks, he includes about 5 hours of his podcast episodes at the end ... just skip buying the other books and listen to the podcast episodes with the Tom Basso and other traders. Review: Fascinating book with lots of details and most important; objectivity. - I appreciate how the author dug so deep into the history that transpired on this terrific story. I would highly recommend this book and enjoyed everything about it. However I don’t fully buy into the conclusion that nurture soundly beats nature across the board. At best, for me, is the experiment showed skills can be taught (great skills aren’t innate). But the students selected were both very bright and driven to succeed. Taking the ambition and action required to get selected put them in the top 20% of students to begin with. Just my opinion and based on my professional experience of trying to select superior franchisees (who would learn a franchise system and be highly successful). So for me the debate of nurture vs nature continues, but this experiment/ book should be required reading for anyone joining in such a debate.

Good book on the Turtles
I, like everyone it seems, am intrigued by the whole Turtle Trading idea. I am one of those people that has spent a lot of money on books and classes always trying to hone my investing skills and admitedly looking for any "edge" that I can get. I purchased this book with the hope that it would give me a little insight into the system that the Turtles used to succeed and unlike other Turtle books this one actually delivered for the most part. There is a chapter that talks about calulating your "Expectation" or edge when calculating performance or tradeing methodology. Mind you there was no real "system" that was divulged line by line, however this book went further than others to explain the thought and methodology that went into the Turtle trading training. One thing that might be reassuring to non-day traders is the premise layed out in the book that the Turtles spent a lot of time sitting around doing nothing. They did not force trades and only placed trades when the conditions were favorable. When a trade was initiated there were definite exit strategies that were not varied from. For someone like me who if very "systemetized" this was nice to know. Now if we could just find the ever-elusive full proof system. The other thing that was different and informative was that it gave you the success rates of many of the Turtle traders. It also talked about what some of the Turtles did after they they left and were out on their own. All in all this was a pretty good book. It might have been nice to have more real world examples of how the methods are/were applied but overall it was a pretty easy read and gave a little more insight into the Turtles and what made them so successful.

This system works
I read every page slowly. This a very well researched book. I would say it’s a classic tale of human nature. The question of putting the turtles together was ultimately, what makes a successful trader? Is it an infallible system or innate ability you are born with. The markets of the world don’t really care. The question is where is the sweet spot in the opportunity. This book will take you on an incredible journey of a reality that was conjured out of thin air. The want ads for the turtle trading system remind me of the tickets to Willy Wonka‘s chocolate factory. What is really interesting is all the characters behind the story and how they emerged.

The best book on trading in any market.
After reading all sorts of articles, books and essays on trading, and months of watching the financial news, this narrative of the famous turtle traders makes the most sense of anything I have seen written on trading. Once I began to study trading, I quickly realized I will never be able to have more information than the pros to have any edge on picking stocks. What I can do though, as well as anyone with an internet connection, is spot a trend. I realized that I don't need to watch the trading shows (useless financial entertainment) on cable, (especially the stock slinging clown) or even the WSJ. Reading the story told by "The Complete Turtle Trader" and analyzing the rules of these traders gave me hope as a novice. The rules of trend following really are simple, and beautifully so. These principles are taught so well by Covel's narrative. It was an enjoyable, entertaining read. It is well worth what I spent, though I'll have to snag another because I forget to whom I most recently lent my copy! I highly recommend this book to any who value simplicity in a trading system, and are looking for quality advice for dealing with the turbulence and uncertainty in today's financial world.
