Philips Series 3000 electric razor
Early days as I only purchased this razor on 2/6/18 so I cannot comment on reliability. First off though, and something I think some reviewers do forget, shaving is a personal experience and no two individuals will achieve exactly the same results, so whilst one reviewer may think this razor is the bees knees, others may have an entirely different experience and perspective. Also, skin needs time to adapt to dry shaving and so if someone is new to using an electric shaver, their skin most definitely will not be used to the experience. I've been electric dry shaving for 30 years, so I feel I have at least a few years experience on which to comment. I bought this Series 3000 razor primarily to replace my now old but still functional Philishave 8894 model which I bought about 15 years ago. That model unlike the 3000 series, does have a LED display showing minutes remaining and it is something I will miss on this new model, but some of the numbers on my old 8894 are now not showing correctly. The other reason I bought this new 3000 series razor, is because new shaving heads for the old 8894 are very expensive at between £30 and £45 for genuine Philips heads and the price of this new razor, which incidently is selling on Amazon for half the cost of other retailers, seemed the best option for me. First thing that struck me comparing this new model against my old 8894, is the weight. There is an almost 30 grams difference and I can feel this in the hand. Yes I agree, the materials used in the series 3000 model do feel cheaper than my old 8894, but I guess this is what happens with progress and the internal battery is probably much lighter than my old model. This 3000 model is also slightly larger than my old 8894, not much in it, but it is. I do like the head cutter cover on the 3000 model, it is much better fitting than the sloppy fitting cover on my old razor. So charging. Well I've read some other reviews from customers complaining that the razor doesn't come with a UK three pin plug hanging off of it. I haven't owned a Philips shaver yet that hasn't come with a pre-fitted two pin plug. If like me you live in a fairly modern house that has a 100/230 volt shaver socket pre-installed in the bathroom, then this isn't even an issue. Like others have said, if you don't have any other option, you have to purchase a separate UK shaver adapter socket and they're cheap enough to buy. Anyway, it took less than an hour to fully charge the razor. Now the shaving part. Pressed the ON/OFF switch and rather unremarkably, it turned on! It has a distinctly different sound in operation to my old 8894. This series 3000 model is my 3rd Philips electric shaver, indeed I still have my first model somewhere in the house. I hadn't shaved for a couple of days, so a good bit of stubble to get to grips with. I used my usual technique and absolutely no surprises, the razor did exactly as I was both hoping and expecting, it gave me a shave as close and as good as my old 8894 model. Over approximately 3 minutes, I didn't suffer any nicks or cuts or any discomfort outside of my usual shaving experience. It just did the job, so I definitely cannot complain. I personally wouldn't ever use this razor wet or with foam, that for me kind of defeats the object of quick shaving. To complement my purchase, I bought a hard shell case for it for just under a tenner, again from Amazon. Fits perfectly inside and now stands less of a chance of being damaged in transit when I fly abroad. I really do hope that this new 3000 Philips electric razor lasts as long as my previous two Philips razors. And again, a fantastic price from Amazon compared to other retailers, well packaged and in my case, next day delivery.

Big bang for little buck
Series 3000 is complete entry level in regards to Philips shavers. I thought about buying one from series 5000 that was Star Wars themed, because I actually tried it at my friends house. Then I saw a review from Anazon verified reviewer that actually bought this shaver and owned above mentioned Star Wars series 5000 one and one from elite series 9000. He concluded the same as I did. This shaver actually outperformed SW series 5000 one in shave quality and battery life. He actually put it just a tad below his personal series 9000, and that was more than enough for me. I can shave under shower, in car while in commute (not while driving), or at home watching TV or behind computer which is most of the time. The shave is clean and smooth, or as smooth as a shave can be with an electric shaver, and it’s a lot quieter than I expected. No irritated skin afterwards and clean cut looking face. If you work out a great lather with a brush and then shave with it, you come pretty close to cartridge shaver shave. Again, it will never be as clean as straight razor at your barber. But that’s not its job. Its job/quality lies in practical shaving. No fuss no muss. You do it on the go, or in the shower, wherever and whenever without any preparations. After use, you just fully rinse it off with cold water and the shaver is back to ‘new’. Replaceable blades go for about 30€, and you can replace them yourself with ease after about two years (depends on your thickness of beard). I’m really happy I bought this one and didn’t spend hundreds more on not much more quality. And I’m never ever going back to straight razor/cartridge razors.

Budget model but it does exactly what it claims.
There are a lot of electric shavers out there, so much has been said about them. Some amazing and some so poor they're barely more than paperweights with spinning bits. Is this one the best out there? No, So why write this review? ... Because I like it. I like it a lot. It's light easy to use and does a really good job across a variety of beard lengths. If you're like me, you shave when you have to but don't when you don't. But when you do it had to be perfect! I need to be clean shaven on duty, I have to stand up to the standards whilst on parade four times a week. With some other (far more expensive Braun razors) I'm left with dry, strained skin that feels like I've been flayed. Yet this relatively cheap Phillips model glides over my skin and takes off three days of fuzz with ease. OK, it takes a few extra minutes to get the same smoothness as my Braun but there's no ache afterwards. Between each day I can shave with very little irritation and not worry about having to wear a helmet chin strap or a breathing apparatus face mask around my face. So win win. The three round cutting heads work best if you circulate around your face with the razor, a very natural movement. All my previous razors have been straight foils but it's not till you try a round razor that you realize how unnatural the forward, backwards motion is. Your face isn't made up of straight lines so why do we expect a straight foil to be the best? The materials used are light weight plastic, it has a cheap feel to it and with no accessories (even no storage bag) you'd feel this is the basic option, yet the uncluttered package means it's only there to shave and shave is what it does. You can easily use this everyday, every other day or once a week and it will trim without pulling, cutting or scratching you. The blades are well placed and you can push very firmly against your face without feeling the blades go round (my Braun cut me in places such as corner of lips and chin) this Phillips does not. I've had it a few months now, used it a lot, taken it to work, holiday and home, and I've no intention of swapping back to my six month old, top of the range Braun. No frills, no extras, no bits of plastic grooming things that will sit in the box forever. Just a damn good shave.
