White Box: Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game is an easy to learn role-playing game inspired by the original edition by Gygax and Arneson. It is compatible with Swords & Wizardry WhiteBox Review: Awesome DnD Update! - If you remember playing DnD with the original 3 booklets that came in a white box, you know why this is named for it. This is a re-edit of the original rules into a single book, arranged and presented much better than my old ones were. I don't notice any major changes in the content itself, just clarification and deletion of irrelevant items (like suggesting you play a different game if you want a wilderness adventure.) Nice and legible 2 tone tables, beautiful artwork, all printed on demand in a perfect bound book with slick b/w cover art that calls back the old days when this WAS Dungeons and Dragons. If you want to go truly Old School, this is better and way cheaper than tracking down those old books. Even if you're a collector, this is a better book for gameplay. Review: Simple...old school. - If you want a bare bones rpg that you can add onto...this is it. Drop all the extra rules baggage and add only what you need with this one. Easy to grasp and highly customizable.

An excellent single-book OSR ruleset
White Box has long been a favorite of mine, and I was delighted to see how inexpensive it was to get a hardcopy here. I've experimented with other OSR clones (and with other game systems) for years. Many do a nice job modernizing, without completely changing, the original games. But most require some knowledge of those old rules. None are beginner friendly, and many share one of the old games biggest problems-- too many books needed for a single session. White Box is a great standalone book. Just grab a generic adventure and go. Its presentation and organization is good for grognards and would be easy for younger players to learn as well. The only thing I'd change in a future edition: pick an armor class mechanic and stick with it. Older players will be fine with seeing both the ascending and descending methods offered. But brand new players might be confused by it. It just puts a lot of unneeded numbers on the creature profiles. Overall it is a great OSR product, and is much more tabletop-ready than other systems!

The best Rpg book you can buy.
For anyone looking for a table top game game that is light on rules and heavy on old school fun, this is your book. Not only is it one of the cheapest rpg books you can find, it's also a blast to play. This is the only role playing book ive loved so much that I bought a second copy (one with alternate art). The system itself organizes old school white box D&D into a book small enough to toss in your bag and take anywhere (the book not much bigger than my hand). This book also adds options to give a more modern touch to some of the more outdated mechanics. For instance it offers stats for both ascending and descending armor class for you to choose based on preference. It also offers plenty of suggestions for house rules if something isn't working out for your group. If you want to spend less time preparing and more time playing this book is all you need.

Authentic OSR experience
The book is very well done. The illustrations are beautiful while being true to their oldschool image. The rules are for a very simple game for those who wanted a closer feel to 1st edition D&D. There's less options, less classes, races and monsters. And that is part of it's charm. However this comes with some of the bad stuff: the armor system (both of them), just like in old school games, are more complicated than they need: you shouldn't need a table to figure if you hit or not. The game is less focused on customization (in fact, there's barely any) and more in dungeon crawling. But it is also DEADLY. As a new player coming from D&D, this was actually pretty refreshing, but I don't see my group playing White Box more than a couple of sessions.

Awesome OSR TTRPG
The content is amazing for the price. I started playing TTRPGs when I was a kid in the 80s. This is both nostalgic and streamlined. Includes ascending armor class and the original THACO rules. The price is great. I bought all three cover variants and gave away one to a friend who wanted to start playing ttrpgs.

Great rules for a great price.
I got exactly what I wanted. The rules are easy to understand and perfect for people who want a simple (for an RPG) game to play with friends. If you want the most in-depth RPG system you can buy this is not the game for you, however if you say run a gaming club or play with a group that is not supper rules heavy this game seems like a blast. I have yet to play a game of it, but the rules are quite suited to the kind of gamers I tend to play with. I have many game books with tons of rules for games i have played and most of that ends up going unutilized with my players. Personally I think it is neat to have a game that if everyone wants a copy of the rules in the group can be played comfortably at less than 6$ a player. I think it depends on how much rule defined depth you and other players want but I will say, it is priced to play. In a 5 person group everyone can own a copy of the rules for under 30$. I feel that it may appeal more to casual players but for me that is a good thing.

Perfect intro
Trying to introduce your group to the OSR? Here's a cost effective way to do so. Works well with classic D&D modules or your own homebrew.

Worth buying even if you're only mildly curious about medieval gaming
I picked this up on a whim just to get free shipping on my order, and I was completely blown away. It's a brilliant little game that will allow you to dive into old school sword and sorcery rpg with just the addition of some cheap polyhedral dice. I love the simplicity of the rules, item and monster descriptions, spells, etc. Nearly everything can be explained in a tiny paragraph or two, which is pretty sweet when I think of the descriptions in the Advanced D&D Monstrous Manual, which took up entire pages. Compatible with Swords & Wizardry, so you could use those adventure modules to run a game. White Box also has stats for ascending and descending Armour Class, so it might be simple to use old D&D Basic Modules. Great little system which I'd rank second only to Basic Fantasy RPG -- which has great community support and tons of free accessories -- for a dollar more.

Excelente compra
