they don't have to stay upright. Once suctioned it stays inside.

Will it work with actual Jello or only liquid ?

You're using the same ratio of liquid (1 c cold water then 1 c hot water) per the 3 oz package directions on jello. So, if you want shots with alcohol, you would instead of the cold water, use cold alcohol. In that scenario, you can use 1 c col alcohol or 1/2 c cold alcohol and 1/2 c cold water, depending how strong you want them. I use 1 c cold alcohol (from the freezer). So, to answer if they can be used with actual jello, yes. If you want them non-alcoholic you would simply make a regular batch of jello, suction up the liquid and let set in fridge instead of using a bowl or whatnot. We find them fun! Just don't lose the caps!! They're not replaceable. Once set and about to be used, I remove them and place in bowl on counter and then pass them out to guests.
